We’ve just wrapped up our on-Country gathering and wanted to take a moment to share how it went.

It was a strong few days. Mob travelled from across the region and even up from Victoria to be there, making their own way to come together, which says a lot about how important these spaces are. We had good numbers, good energy, and a genuine sense of people reconnecting with each other and with Country and culture.

Our Elders led the way, sharing knowledge, stories, and guidance throughout. We spent time on Country, including visits to culturally important places in the region, learning and building on art and crafting skills, and having a yarn along the way, with men’s and women’s business respected and held properly.

Since finishing up, we’ve already had others reach out asking how they can be part of the next one. That’s a good sign that this is something our community wants and values.

We’re really looking forward to building on this and bringing mob together again soon.

As a natural extension of our language and cultural work in community, we’re holding a men’s and women’s on-Country gathering in April for Ngarabal people. There hasn’t been a consistent way for our mob to come together on Country in-region and spend that time properly with Elders and community, and that gap has been there for a long time.

This gathering builds on the language revitalisation work already underway. People have been learning language, and this gathering creates the chance to practise what they’re learning, speak in language on Country, and strengthen that learning in the right setting. We applied for support through Aboriginal Affairs NSW to help reduce costs and make it easier for more people to be involved, but that support wasn’t provided. We’re still going ahead and will carry it ourselves because of how important it is.

Harmony Week is taking place across Australia this week, providing an opportunity to reflect on the many cultures and histories that shape our communities. In regional areas especially, people from different backgrounds live and work alongside one another every day.

For thousands of years Aboriginal people moved across Country through systems of relationship and responsibility that allowed different groups to maintain their own identity while still interacting, trading and resolving disagreements. Those systems recognised that people carried obligations not only to one another but also to the Country that sustained them.

Today similar principles can still be seen in the way communities function. Farmers, small businesses, community organisations, Elders, families and newcomers all contribute to the life of a place. Harmony grows through respect, cooperation and a willingness to work together over time.

This week provides an opportunity to reflect on the relationships that help hold our communities together.

We’re quietly starting something new.

SRNKAC is beginning work on a small pilot focused on access, learning, and better opportunities for young people in our region.

It’s early days and there’s more work ahead, but this feels like a good step in the right direction.

More to share soon.

Today we celebrate the stories, cultures and languages of First Nations peoples across Australia.

For us at SRNKAC, it is also a reminder of why our Ngarabal Language Revival Program matters. We are keeping our words and knowledge strong for the next generations.

Yesterday we kicked off the very first session of the SRNKAC Ngarabal Language Revival Program! It was wonderful to see our Elders and community coming together to share and learn.

If you’re local to Tenterfield, we’d love for you to come along in person. If you’re further away, don’t worry. You can still join us online and be part of keeping our language strong.

This is a chance to learn, connect, and celebrate who we are together.

NAIDOC Week means so much to us and this year it’s a bit more personal than usual.

And we’re proud beyond words to see our own family Jeremy Worrall honoured as this year’s official NAIDOC poster artist

His artwork Ancestral Lines captures everything we feel in our hearts. Connection. Strength. Spirit.

This week, and every week, we walk proud in who we are and where we come from

Always was, always will be
