A perfect mismatched pair! 🦘💕
At Wildlife in Need of Care, we do our very best to buddy up orphaned babies whenever it's safe and appropriate. Having a companion of a similar age helps provide comfort, confidence, and important social interaction during their rehabilitation journey.
These two may be a mismatched pair in size and appearance, but they're already forming a special bond. Watching little joeys grow up with a friend by their side is one of the most rewarding parts of wildlife care. Every baby deserves a mate to snuggle with, learn from, and help them feel safe while they prepare for their eventual return to the wild. 🥰🌿

🧶 Yarn Donations Needed 🧶
Hi everyone 😊
I’m currently looking for donations of yarn to help with my projects of making possum huts . I mainly use acrylic yarn, and I’m happy to work with whatever people have available.
I usually use two strands together — one chunky (if possible) and one 8 ply — but truly, anything helps!
I often buy “mill ends” from Spotlight, but donations would be so appreciated, especially if you have leftover wool or yarn from past projects sitting around.
If you have any spare you’d be happy to pass on, I would be incredibly grateful 💛
Thank you so much!

A few weeks ago, this little brushtail possum found itself in a bit of trouble after becoming stuck in a skylight. Thankfully, it was safely rescued and brought into care.

We’re so happy to share that this little one is now doing really well — growing stronger each day, settling in beautifully, and receiving all the love and care it needs. 🐾💚

Wildlife can often end up in the most unexpected places, and this is a wonderful reminder of how important it is to call for help when you spot an animal in distress.

Thank you to everyone involved in this little possum’s rescue and ongoing care. We can’t wait to watch this sweet brushtail continue to thrive until it’s ready to return to the wild where it belongs. 🌿✨

: H5 bird flu has been confirmed in Gentoo Penguins on Heard Island. This is the first time the virus has been detected in birds in an Australian territory.

H5 bird flu has devastated bird and wildlife populations overseas, and it remains to be seen what effect this outbreak will have on the island’s endemic bird species – the Heard Island Cormorant and the Black-faced Sheathbill.

Despite being 4,000 km away, this detection on Heard Island is a clear warning: Australia must be prepared.

Our work at BirdLife Australia helps ensure Australian bird populations will have the resilience to recover from the effects of H5 bird flu. Habitat protection and reducing threats to birds are a critical part of preparedness.

If you find any sick or dead birds, do not touch them. Instead, call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888. Find out more about H5 bird flu at our hub here: https://birdlife.org.au/h5n1-avian-influenza/

We will update you with more information as we have it.

Please remember our wildlife on hot days like today.
Extreme heat is dangerous and can be deadly for our native animals. Many are struggling to find water and shelter.
You can help by placing shallow bowls of fresh water in shaded areas, refreshing them regularly, and keeping pets away. Even the smallest action can save a life.
If you see a wildlife animal in distress due to heat, please contact WINC immediately
