Whitehouse Lane Residents Raise Concerns at TRRRA Meeting

Whitehouse Lane residents attended the TRRRA meeting on Wednesday, 17 June 2026 to outline their concerns about the proposed use of Whitehouse Lane and Marsden Park Road as an oversized overmass transport route associated with the New England Renewable Energy Zone.

Residents raised a number of issues, including road safety, school bus operations, emergency vehicle access, flooding, road upgrades, power line impacts and the potential for Whitehouse Lane to become a de facto bypass route.

They also questioned whether alternatives, including Burgmanns Lane, have been fully assessed and compared.

The discussion provided an opportunity for residents to share information about the proposal and the issues they believe require further consideration.

Residents are due to meet shortly with representatives from EnergyCo, Transport for NSW and Tamworth Regional Council to discuss the proposal and seek answers to a range of questions about the project and its impacts.

TRRRA will continue to follow the issue and keep residents informed as more information becomes available.

I was out of town last Saturday during this month's Councillor Catch Up, so this weekend I’m going to be hosting a Listening Post to make sure residents still have an opportunity to talk in person with me about any issues or thoughts they have. And given the looming decision about RWH I’m sure will be the topic on people's minds, I thought it was appropriate to do host this in the vicinity of the building itself.

You can catch me this Saturday morning in Bicentennial Park across the back entrance of RWH on Kable Avenue from 11am-12pm. Drop by if you’d like to have a chat.

HAVE YOUR SAY🗣️

Council is inviting community feedback on two important draft documents now on public exhibition📄

🔹Lobbying Guidelines for Councillors - These guidelines outline how Councillors will interact with developers, applicants and community members, helping ensure transparency and consistency in decision-making.

🔹Draft Amendments to the Complaints & Procedures Process - These updates aim to improve how Council receives feedback specifically on suspected instances of modern slavery. These amendments complement the Modern Slavery Prevention Policy adopted in 2025.

Feedback on both policies are open until 4pm Wednesday 15 July 2026.

Following the release of a video of the Tamworth Mayor speaking at the LGNSW Rural and Regional Summit, TRRRA wrote to Tamworth Regional Council raising concerns regarding respectful leadership and how elected representatives engage with differing viewpoints when formally representing Council externally.

Council has since provided a response to TRRRA outlining its position.

TRRRA also contributed an opinion article to the New England Times exploring the broader issues raised by the discussion.

Regardless of where people stand on the rate rise itself, the question is simple: how should elected representatives engage with those who disagree with them?

Read the article here:

Robyn writes that healthy democratic culture is built on the ability to disagree responsibly while maintaining respect for both the office and the community being represented.

Who pays the difference?

At a previous meeting, Council adopted a developer charging option different from the one recommended by staff.

The current Questions With Notice seek clarification about the long-term financial implications of that decision.

The issue is not whether infrastructure is needed. As Tamworth grows, new water and wastewater infrastructure will still need to be funded.

The questions now being asked include:

• Who pays if developers contribute less?
• How future infrastructure will be funded
• Whether water and wastewater reserves could be affected
• Potential impacts on future charges

TRRRA believes residents deserve clear and transparent information about decisions that may affect future infrastructure funding and the long-term financial sustainability of our region.
