TRC’s savings account is shrinking.

Council expects to lose $7.3 million in discretionary cash reserves this year.

They warn that:

• Cash is tightening
• Major projects don’t currently have funding
• They are relying on staff wage savings
• Cost reductions may be required

This raises serious questions about long-term financial stability.

Did you know that Tamworth Regional Council has been invoiced a bill of $1,602,350.51 from the EPA.

This is due to TRC taking too long to complete the project of an Organic Waste Plant project.

They are now required to repay the amount they had expended plus any unexpended funding from the initial grant from the EPA, plus interest.

The grant was given to Tamworth Regional Council in 2018.

Tamworth Regional Council are now claiming travel expenses were only $2000 in 2024.

Tamworth Regional Council asserted on a Facebook post that the previously reported $867000 reported in 2024 was accurate under the travel expenses line item.

Tamworth Regional Council Ordinary Meeting April 8 2025 key points:

🗳️ Tamworth Regional Council priorities to be sent to the candidates for the 2025 Federal election. This motion was raised by Councillor Ryan Brooke and passed unanimously with amendments.

These priorities are:
(i) commit to securing Tamworth, Kootingal and Moonbi’s water supply via financial
contributions to water infrastructure projects, such as the proposed Tamworth
Industrial Water Recycling Plant;
(ii) create incentives that will enable an increase in the construction of affordable
housing throughout the Tamworth Region;
(iii) a commitment to support the creation, both in principle and via financial
contributions, of a Performing Arts Centre in Tamworth;
(iv) a commitment to support the expansion, both in principle and via financial
contributions, of the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC);
and
(v) an acceleration and significant increase to road funding to construct identified road network projects and upgrades around the Tamworth Region
(vi) the federal assistance grants and seeking 1% of GDP
(vii) interventions to address the shortage of health staff including doctors in the Tamworth Regional Council area
(viii) addressing the social disparity for poorest post codes in Tamworth Regional Council area
(ix) address communication black spots across regional areas

🤸‍♂️Tamworth Gymnastics Club fee wavier for use of the TRECC for the 2025 Capitol Cup passed. This will cost $23,211 from the SESP budget

🚦The recommendations from the Tamworth Regional Local Traffic Committee including installing 15 minute parking zone signage on George St, Moonbi and relocating a no stopping sign 9m further south on Brisbane Street, East Tamworth were passed unanimously

💧Remove the ‘Reduction in Water Consumption Charges’ policy was passed with Councillor Ryan Brooke voting against.

⛔️ Manilla Fish Hatchery lease of land and tender of the Manilla water main renewal were considered in closed council.
