One horse. One extraordinary story. That changed Australian history.

Sandy the War Horse is the only Australian War Horse of 136,000 to return from World War I.

Bred in old Tallangatta in the Lake Hume region, Sandy became the trusted steed of Major General William Throsby Bridges.

Today, his life size bronze statue stands in The Triangles at Tallangatta, honouring a story of courage, loyalty, and survival that still resonates more than a century on.

Discover Sandy’s story in Tallangatta.
