Bethanga makes a pretty convincing case for slowing down.

Just a short drive from Wodonga, this historic township is the perfect excuse for a day out.

On the way, stop at Kurrajong Gap Lookout, nestled between Bellbridge and Bethanga, and take in sweeping views across Lake Hume, the Hume Dam Wall and the surrounding countryside.

When it's time for lunch, settle in at the historic Bethanga Hotel before spending some time exploring a town that has been part of the region's story since the gold rush days of 1852.

Thanks to recent rainfall, Lake Hume is now sitting at around 65% capacity, creating a stunning backdrop for a stroll along the Tallangatta foreshore.

Not every town has a story quite like Tallangatta.

Known as the "Town That Moved", Tallangatta was relocated in the 1950s to make way for the expansion of Lake Hume. Today, that remarkable history remains woven through the town's identity and continues to fascinate visitors.

When Lake Hume is full, the abundant birdlife and scenic outlook make it hard to believe there was once a bustling township below the waterline. As the water recedes, remnants of the old roadways and even the footings of buildings can be seen from the Old Tallangatta Lookout.

Spend some time exploring local lookouts, historical displays and community landmarks. History isn't always found behind museum doors.

One of the things we love most about Lake Hume is that it never looks quite the same twice.

A calm, glass-like reflection one day. Dramatic clouds rolling across the sky the next. Golden winter afternoons, vibrant sunsets and ever-changing colours across the hills and water create a landscape that is constantly evolving.
