Investing in research leads to improved delivery of care for patients, reduction of risk factors, and better management of the burden of oral disease, for the benefit of individuals, the health system and the economy. Dental research in Australia must continue to be advanced and the Australian Dental Research Foundation (ADRF), a joint initiative of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Dental Industry Association, plays a critical role in funding dental and oral health research in Australia. Each year donations made to the ADRF allow it to offer a range of grants and scholarships. To date, with the help of its donors, the ADRF has supported over 2,000 research projects conducted by dental students, early and mid-career researchers, and senior researchers within our world class dental schools. The ADRF is committed to supporting:
– dental research which translates to better patient care and overall community health, particularly where it is needed most, and
– dental innovation on the pathway from laboratory to the marketplace, generating business opportunities, creating jobs and positioning dental research as a significant economic driver.

The Australian Dental Research Foundation Ltd. - ADRF is pleased to announce the opening of the 2025 research grant round, supporting innovative, intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary research in oral health. These grants aim to foster collaboration across disciplines to generate high-impact research that improves patient care, reduces health disparities, and strengthens oral healthcare frameworks. By funding projects that integrate expertise from dentistry, medicine, public health, and related fields, ADRF seeks to support research with real-world applications and potential for securing larger national-level grants.

Grant Details:

• Funding:
o ADRF Collaborative Research Grant – Four grants of $50,000 each, supporting large-scale collaborative research projects.
o Oral Health Promotion Research Grant (ADA) – $15,000, provided by Australian Dental Association Ltd. (ADA Ltd.), supporting research in oral health promotion and preventive strategies.
