NSW Chess Association

The NSW Chess Association is the governing body of chess in NSW. www.nswca.org.au The NSW Chess Association (NSWCA) is responsible for chess in NSW.

It is affiliated with the Australian Chess Federation (ACF) which is affiliated with the World Chess Federation (Federation Internationale des Echecs, FIDE). The NSW Junior Chess League (NSWJCL) and most NSW chess clubs are affiliated with the NSWCA. The NSWCA runs a range of tournaments including:

The NSW Championship
The City of Sydney Championship
The Interclub Grade Matches
Up to five weeken

d tournaments annually ranging from Category 1 to Category 5 level Grand Prix events on the national GP circuit, administered by the Australian Chess Federation. Various Lightning and Rapid-Play tournaments. In conjunction with the ACF, the NSWCA operates a Rating service for its members. The NSWCA runs a range of tournaments ranging from single day events to weekenders and weekly competitions.

The 2024 NSW Open is just over 2 weeks away!

We are at a new venue this year, at Novotel West HQ in Rooty Hill, with increased capacity and a more modern and comfortable playing area.

It runs for 4 days from Friday 7th of June to Monday 10th of June.

Entry is limited to 200 players.

The tournament has a huge prize pool of $8,900, between both the Major and Minor Division.

All players under 13 years of age must have a parent or guardian on the premises at all times.

Entry in the Major section is restricted to players with an ACF standard rating of at least 1400 or a FIDE standard rating of at least 1600.
