Check out a new piece in the Women’s Agenda by Ella Amati about a recent government regulation impacting trans and gender diverse (TGD) incarcerated people in NSW. The regulation makes it easier for TGD people to be placed in prisons that don’t align with their gender or preference, and makes it easier for TGD people to be strip searched by people who are not their gender.

Email the Premier and Minister for Corrections via the link in the Trans Justice Sydney linktree today to overturn this troubling regulation, which is out of alignment with TGD people’s human rights. You can check out Ella’s piece via the Trans Justice Sydney linktree also.

Your opportunity to make a submission to help scrap a troubling piece of proposed legislation in Aotearoa New Zealand-called the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill- will close on 2 July. You don’t need to be located in Aotearoa New Zealand to make a submission.

The proposed legislation would define what constitutes a man and a woman. It states that the term ‘woman’ will be defined as ‘adult human biological female’, and that ‘man’ should be defined as, ‘adult human biological male’. As Qtopia explains, ‘these are vague, circular, political slogans that do not have any scientific meaning’.

Concerningly, the Bill threatens the rights and dignity of trans and gender diverse people, takatāpui communities and people with variations in s*x characteristics. 

If this proposed legislation passes, it will have flow-on implications for other contexts globally, by emboldening conservative lawmakers in their attempts to legislate trans and gender diverse people out of existence.

A recently introduced prison regulation in NSW increases the risk of TGD people being placed in prisons that do not align with their gender or preference. The regulation also makes it easier for TGD people to be strip searched by people who are not their gender. Write to the NSW Premier and Corrections Minister to repeal this regulation, which is a concern for TGD people's human rights.

Are you an LGBTQIASB+ young person? Or are you a parent/guardian to, do you work with or represent LGBTQIASB+ young people? Your insights are needed!

The NSW Office for Youth is developing a Strategic Plan for children and young people in NSW for the next four years. It would be awesome to have as much input about the needs and experiences of LGBTQIASB+ children and young people as possible.

How would you like to see trans and gender diverse people’s human rights better protected in NSW? Why is this important to you?

Let us know via filling out our survey, linked in bio, by 19 June 2026. Your input will inform a submission we’re drafting to an inquiry into a human rights act for NSW.

This inquiry is a historic opportunity to provide community input into how human rights can be better protected across the state. Unlike the ACT, QLD and VIC, NSW does not have a human rights act.

TRANS JUSTICE SYDNEY PICNIC 💛

Please join us for a gathering of trans and gender people and allies for some connection, frollick, sharing and fun!

When: 30th May 2pm - 4pm.

Where: Camperdown Memorial park, Camperdown. Gadigal/Wangal country. Keep an eye out for the trans flags 🏳️‍⚧️ (See details below)

Why: to connect, have fun, learn a bit more about each other, hear a bit about trans justice sydneys work if youre keen, and to be together in community solidarity. We need JOY.

What to bring: a picnic rug, sunscreen, layers, games if you like, and some food to share. Please think about your story, heritage or culture if you like and bring something or some food to represent this if this invitation feels good for you. ✨️🌿🎂

If not, no worries. Please come and be with us and just bring yourself.

Join us for a special community screening of JIMPA at Impact Story Lab Sydney (.storytellers) on Wednesday May 13!

As she works on a film about her family, Hannah (Olivia Colman) is forced to reckon with the past when her trans non-binary teenager (Aud Mason-Hyde) declares they want to move abroad to live with their gay grandfather, “Jimpa” (John Lithgow).

The film is the most wonderful celebration of q***r and trans joy, relationships and the complexity of our lives.
