Unsure about travelling too far for a short walk? Try Bellbird Grove at D’Aguilar NP.
Starting from the picnic area we linked a few loop tracks together to incorporate views of the city skyline from a ridge top, a flatter creekside track and the gold mine circuit.
We still had plenty of time for a coffee at Walkabout Creek bushland centre at Enoggera Reservoir on our way home. (Also a good spot for some walks.)

A group of club members carpooled to the Queensland/NSW border to visit Bushrangers Cave. The walk starts right at the border fence and we and followed the overgrown fence line to the cave. It’s simple navigation but scratchy with plenty of “up”.
Bushrangers Cave is a cool reprieve from the noise and heat of the outside world. We spent some time exploring it and checking the beginning of the more difficult ascent to Mt Wagawn (which we’ll save for another day).

Looking for a beginners stroll close to the city but with an “escaped to the country feel”? Then try the very short Coucal Trail along the banks of the Brisbane River. The area is maintained by volunteers and the Brisbane City Council.
Wildlife was a little elusive but kookaburras and king parrots gave us a brief viewing. The track is mostly shady with views of the river, detours to a wooden lookout and a rocky cave.

A wet weekend forecast didn’t deter an interstate trip to Whian Whian and Nightcap NP in NSW. Minyon Falls walk and partial sections of longer walks were enjoyed as day outings. Gidguum Gulganyi campsites looked great.
Upside of the rain was all the cascades and waterfalls were flowing and the cooler temps made for cosy night fires.

We haven’t needed rescuing lately. Happily! However members enjoyed a social outing to the Wynnum Heritage Ambulance Museum. Tours run by volunteers are well worth it.

Piper Comanche track today. A lot of tree fall and detours. Markers helped. The track to Mt D’Aguilar cairn was not well travelled and the wreck track had some false trails on the way down.
In good news - only 2 leeches were encountered , no tickoff or snake bandages were required. 😀

Partially open Illinbah Circuit - the short section of track to Gwongoorool Pool is well travelled and easy to follow. Beyond that and along the creek bank and rock hop crossings the less traversed reopened section has some additional track markers. The rangers have done their best to clear fallen trees whilst slippage along the creek made for some fun manoeuvres in fitting with its Class 5 rating.

Looking for a mid week escape close to Brisbane? Try Toohey Forest. We explored some lesser known trails around the Nathan Griffith Uni campus a while back and enjoyed the bush before the heat of the day kicked in. Thanks Margie and Dave for the planning.

Good to have the Lower Bellbird Circuit at Lamington NP open again after over 2 years of closure. Views across the valley and up to the cliffs were interspersed with eucalypt and rainforest sections. A couple of trees across the path and some stinging trees using the space from canopy thinning needed to be avoided, along with a small snake crossing the track. The new Binna Burra experience was also operating above us.

An early outing at Whites Hill Reserve to keep legs and lungs going before a relaxed coffee near the playground. One koala was spotted high up, a couple of wallabies and a kingfisher feeding young in a their renovated termite nest. . Bushland can be enjoyed near or far from home.

Like our new profile photo? Taken on our Twin Falls hike at Springbrook last weekend. A fabulous rainforest walk with magnificent views, waterfalls, caves, palm groves …. And quite a few stairs.
