Sydney Stingers Water Polo Australia’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ water polo club. Inclusive training + competitive pathways. Community-led, water polo-driven. 25 Years.

Sydney Stingers is Australia’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ water polo club, based in Sydney. Since 2001, we’ve created space for LGBTQIA+ people and allies to train, compete, and build community in and out of the pool. Our mission is simple: community-led, water polo-driven. We are committed to inclusive, competitive sport and sustainable club growth. Whether you’re new to water polo or returning after time away, we offer structured training, competitive pathways, and a welcoming team environment. We train multiple times per week across Sydney and compete in local and international tournaments. We are a volunteer-run club and proud to contribute to the visibility and strength of LGBTQIA+ sport in Australia. Interested in joining? To mark 25 years of Sydney Stingers, we’re releasing a limited edition swimwear and apparel collection, designed by Stingers member Keegan Forbes, an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist and Kamilaroi man.

Keegan creates his work in Darlinghurst on Gadigal Country. His art reflects his connection to Country and culture, and his own journey as an Aboriginal man. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with a collection designed by one of our own.

The collection is avaiable to members and supporters.

We are thrilled to announce that Daniel Kirkwood has been awarded Life Membership of the Sydney Stingers.

For more than a decade, Daniel has been part of our community. As a player, captain, referee, and quiet force behind the scenes, he has helped to shape who we are.

His commitment to inclusion truly sets him apart. Daniel helped drive the recruitment campaign that brought seventy women and non-binary people into our club. He drove the creation of our trans and gender diverse inclusion policy. He has held the door open wider for everyone who came after him.

Daniel embodies what the Stingers stand for: belonging, reliability, and community.

Congratulations, Daniel Kirkwood
This is deeply deserved.
