Urban Taskforce members were hosted in the spectacular offices of Allens in the recently redeveloped AMP tower in Circular Quay, to hear from Janine Lonergan, Executive Director of the Development Coordination Authority and Tanya O'Brien, Director of Post Consent on the progress to date and the plans for the Development Coordination Authority.

The City of Sydney's $150 million plan to develop Town Hall Square has hit a road block, after the NSW Government's determination that the project be assessed under State Significant Development rules by the Independent Planning Commission.

Urban Taskforce Australia strongly supports this decision, and CEO Tom Forrest was quoted in the Daily Telegraph.

CEO of the Urban Taskforce Australia, Tom Forrest, today strongly supported the intervention of the NSW Government into Clover Moore’s $150 million Town Hall Square vanity project.

Planning Minister Paul Scully’s determination that the project be assessed under State Significant Development rules by the Independent Planning Commission puts a welcome handbrake on something that would have had a massive and detrimental impact on such a significant part of the Sydney C*D.

Through the Lord Mayor’s actions, and those of the City of Sydney, the council has unwittingly become the great uniter – single-handedly forming an unlikely alliance in opposition that includes the Urban Taskforce, the business community, the Labour Council and the trade union movement, and the media.

CEO of Urban Taskforce Australia, Tom Forrest, today congratulated Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Citizenship, Hon Tony Burke, for taking a sensible and measured approach to migration.
Importantly, today’s speech at the National Press Club explicitly recognised the desperate need Australia has for both skilled and unskilled construction workers.
We simply don’t have enough trades and skilled workers to deliver the enormous pipeline of housing and infrastructure we need to meet our housing needs now and into the future.

Bathla has been given a two-week lifeline from lenders as the developer seeks to avoid liquidation, after entering administration at the end of last month.

Urban Taskforce CEO Tom Forrest appeared on ABC Radio Sydney to discuss the situation and the potential flow-on effects a collapse could have on the industry.

CEO of the Urban Taskforce, Tom Forrest, said today that Sydney councils should be thankful that the NSW Government is willing to step in to deliver plans and approvals for the housing that they apparently cannot.

Announcements today by the Minns Government of major NSW State Government led planning proposals for Parramatta and Woollahra Stations show that they, at least, are committed to delivering the housing needed under the National Housing Accord.

The NSW Government has today released its rezoning proposal for Woollahra station, delivering up to 9,400 new homes based around the Woollahra and Edgecliff rail precincts.
