Backyard Buddies

Backyard Buddies Backyard Buddies is an education initiative run by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife.

In Australia we share our lives with some of the world’s most beautiful native animals & plants. At Backyard Buddies, we believe that people around Australia care about native plants and animals and would like to make a positive impact on native species, before it's too late. Backyard buddies are the native animals that share our built-up areas, waterways, backyards and parks. Backyard buddies are also the people who value native animals and plants and want to protect them.

It’s and today we’re spotlighting Australian natives!

More than just beautiful, native trees are also lifelines for our wildlife and essential to building resilient landscapes.

But sadly, they’re under threat.

Here’s how you can help:
🌱 Plant a native through our Nursery Program
💚 Gift a tree & support restoration projects
🦸‍♀️ Become a Habitat Hero - just $10 is enough to plant one tree, providing food & shelter for hundreds of animals!

Every action can make a difference. Find out more here: [https://bit.ly/40zME2D]

Post your impact using and tag us so we can share your story 💚

⏳Final days to make a difference this end of financial year.
This is your last chance to make a tax-deductible donation before June 30, and help protect vulnerable native wildlife and plants that are rapidly disappearing from our landscapes.
👉Donate now: https://bit.ly/4jdMTXC

In the past year, thanks to supporters like you, we have:
🌱 Planted over 70,000 native trees
🐾 Funded 24 threatened species recovery projects
🌳 Protected more than 6,000 hectares of critical habitat
🤝 Supported First Nations and community-led initiatives.

But there’s still so much more to do, and it starts with you.
78 cents of every dollar you donate helps restore ecosystems, empower local communities, and protect Australia’s threatened wildlife from extinction.

🌏 Today is UN World Environment Day — and here in Australia, we’re facing a harsh truth.

We’re losing our wildlife.

From Brush-tailed Rock Wallabies and Greater Bilbies, to lesser-known but vital native species, Australia faces the world’s highest rate of mammal extinctions and it's accelerating biodiversity loss and undermining ecological balance.

But it’s not too late to make a difference.

This June, we’re raising funds to protect and restore the habitats they rely on. Your donation supports real, on-ground action — planting climate-resilient vegetation, collecting native plant seeds, and local conservation work.

This , Habitat Heroes across the country are stepping up to join the global movement to — and we’re inviting you to take part in a simple but powerful challenge: Go plastic-free for 7 days!

Plastic pollution is one of the most serious threats to Australia’s unique wildlife. Discarded plastic can choke turtles, entangle seabirds, poison marine life, and break down into microplastics that linger in ecosystems for generations.

By cutting back on plastic, you're helping protect the incredible biodiversity that makes Australia so special. Just one small change a day can make a big difference for native animals and the places they call home — so get involved and let’s !

Australia is losing its mammals faster than anywhere else on Earth.

That includes incredible species like the Southern Brown Bandicoot and the Greater Bilby – animals found nowhere else in the world.

These iconic creatures are slipping away due to habitat loss, predators, and climate change. But with the right support, we can turn things around.

💚 Your donation helps protect threatened species and restore their natural homes. Every dollar goes towards real conservation work happening right now.

Let’s not wait until they’re gone.

👉 Give today and help protect what’s left: https://bit.ly/4jdMTXC

Together, we can stop extinction in its tracks.
