Our first article of 2025 was published in exploring the need for to combat the crisis. The WMO 2024 update paints a grim picture: 2015–2024 is the hottest decade on record, and continue to rise. While are essential, their intermittency and the growing demand for show that they alone cannot solve our energy needs. https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8857564/
, however, offers a proven solution with consistent, low-carbon baseload power. Countries like , , the and the have already demonstrated its potential to reduce emissions significantly.

We must overcome ideological divides and prioritise pragmatic, inclusive energy solutions. Our window to tackle climate change is closing fast, and nuclear must be part of the mix to ensure and meet our decarbonisation goals. Let’s start the year with a pragmatic approach from the current government and LIFT THE BAN on nuclear in Australia.

Honored to join Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) with our Coalition for Conservation Inc. delegation at COP29 Azerbaijan for the International Roundtable on Strengthening Energy Security: Leveraging Nuclear Energy for Decarbonizing the Global Economy.

This exceptional event, supported by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), provided a vital platform for and business leaders from the .S., , European countries and to share insights, address challenges, and exchange best practices in revitalizing the industry.

Globally, remains a crucial, carbon-free source of . Its role in achieving goals cannot be understated, as evidenced by increasing support and pivotal declarations to scale up nuclear capacity. As democratic nations, we must lead the way in building a transparent, safe, and innovative nuclear supply chain.

A huge thank you to CRES and NEI for hosting such a meaningful discussion moderated by Carol Berrigan and Christina Baworowsky
and to everyone who contributed to this collaborative effort. We are proud to have been working alongside you, championing sensible policies as a cornerstone of our clean energy future.

🌍 We are at COP29 in Baku, engaging with governments and experts on the vital role of nuclear energy in achieving global climate goals. Nuclear’s reliability and low-carbon footprint are essential as countries accelerate decarbonization efforts.

🇫🇷 France is leading the way with significant advancements, from committing to extend the lifespan of existing reactors to planning new-generation EPR reactors. These investments aim to maintain energy independence while further reducing emissions. As one of Europe’s largest producers of nuclear power, France exemplifies the strategic integration of nuclear in a sustainable energy future.

Sweden is actively pursuing new nuclear energy projects to ensure long-term energy security and meet climate goals. The Swedish government has ambitious plans to construct up to ten new reactors by 2045. This includes a mix of conventional large-scale nuclear plants and small modular reactors (SMRs), which are expected to complement each other and diversify the energy mix. Two SMR suppliers, Rolls-Royce and GE Hitachi, are currently being evaluated by Vattenfall for potential deployment at the Ringhals site. The goal is to have new reactors operational by the 2030s.

Additionally, the Swedish government has appointed a nuclear coordinator to expedite the legislative and logistical requirements for these projects. This includes establishing financing mechanisms and restoring supply chains and workforce skills, essential for the success of Sweden’s nuclear energy expansion. The Swedish Parliament has already lifted previous restrictions on the number of reactors, paving the way for further nuclear development beyond existing sites.

C4C had a productive meeting with KlimaUnion at COP29. KlimaUnion brings climate-focused leadership to the German conservative parties CDU and CSU. They work to bridge ambitious climate targets with economic strength, pushing for policies to make Germany climate-neutral within the next two decades.
This collaboration is a reminder of how critical it is to unite across borders and political divides for sensible, effective climate solutions. At C4C, we believe that driving forward balanced and innovative energy policies requires partnerships. A pleasure to interact with their CEO Berthold Schilling

Coalition for Conservation joined energy ministers, climate ambassadors and global leaders at the IAEA and World Nuclear Association event during COP29, where the call to triple nuclear energy by 2050 resonated strongly. Representatives from Sweden, Bulgaria, Turkey, France, Azerbaijan, the USA, Poland, the UAE, Japan, the UK and many others highlighted the urgency of nuclear power to meet climate goals, ensure energy security, and strengthen international collaboration. Hard-to-abate industries and data center experts also stressed the need to accelerate nuclear deployment. With its abundant uranium resources and technological capacity, Australia must seize this opportunity to contribute to the global nuclear supply chain and development, playing a pivotal role in this mission for a sustainable future.

C4C had an inspiring meeting with Israel’s Minister for Environmental Protection, Idit Silman, who is leading the Israeli delegation to COP29 in Baku. Minister Silman is committed to developing and sharing climate solutions across critical areas such as energy, water, and agriculture, while pushing for robust environmental legislation in the Knesset. It was also a delight to meet her dynamic Chief of Staff, Felicia Muabem, originally from Brazil and truly a force of nature. Excited to see the impactful collaborations ahead for climate action!

C4C had the pleasure of meeting with our Zambian friend, Director of Livestock Mr. Bornwell Mupeyo, to discuss collaboration on animal welfare and emissions reduction. We’re excited to share that Zambian Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Hon. Peter Chibwe Kapala, is planning a work visit to Australia.

This visit will be an opportunity to gain valuable insights into Australia’s sustainable livestock production practices and explore ways to enhance Zambia’s production capabilities. With an ambitious goal to increase the cattle population to 7 million, the Zambian Government aims to learn from Australia’s expertise, and we are honored to support this knowledge exchange for a more sustainable future.
