Did you know that Australians facing financial hardship are six times more likely to be persistently lonely?

Lisa* knows this feeling all too well. As a single mum struggling to feed her kids, she says the shame and isolation were overwhelming.

“It’s embarrassing when you’re struggling… you don’t want people to look down on you. But they just don’t do that here.”

Lisa says she wouldn’t have coped without HopeStreet. As well as the practical help of low-cost groceries, it was the kind, non-judgemental support she received that eventually helped her move forward. Now she’s a volunteer at HopeStreet herself, gifting that care forward.
