The day after her Dormition, our hearts are still full of the Mother who was carried home to God. And there is a gentle question these days leave us with: what do we do with a love like hers?

For she did not receive God's tenderness only to keep it. She poured it out, first upon her Son, and then upon all of us given to her at the foot of the Cross. And now she turns to us and asks us to do the same. The love she lavishes on us, the being-seen, the being-held, the being-chosen, is meant to flow through us to the ones the world has forgotten: the lonely child, the grieving heart, the soul with no one to call mother. Freely we have received. Freely we are asked to give.

May the love you have received from God, and through His Mother, overflow into someone who is waiting for it. 🤍

Today our Church celebrates one of her greatest feasts: the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. We call it her falling asleep, for those who die in the Lord do not perish, they rest. And on this day her Son came for her, and took His mother home to Himself, body and soul, into the glory of heaven.

This feast is sometimes called the summer Pascha, because it is a resurrection story. The mother who gave her whole life to God is now wholly with Him, and she goes before us as the first and most beloved of all He has redeemed. But she has not left us. From her place in glory she remains what she has always been: a mother, drawing all her children gently home after her, praying us through every storm until we are gathered where she is.

Most Holy Theotokos, who now dwells in glory, watch over your children still, and lead us home to your Son. 🤍

This Saturday our Church celebrates the Dormition of the Theotokos, the day her Son took His mother home to Himself, body and soul, into glory. It is the crown of these two weeks of prayer.

As the feast draws near, the Church invites each of us to look gently inward. Our Lady's homecoming is a promise held out to all of us, for the same door she passed through is open to everyone who loves her Son. So tonight is a tender moment to ask, without fear: is my heart being made ready? Not out of anxiety, but out of longing, the way you prepare your home for someone you love and cannot wait to see.

May your heart be made ready, gently and without fear, for the day you see Him face to face. 🤍

As the feast of her Dormition draws near, it is worth pausing to see the whole shape of Our Lady's life, because it is all of a piece. From the moment she said “let it be to me according to your word,” to standing beneath the Cross of her dying Son, to her own falling asleep, she held nothing back from God. Not one thing.

Her cousin Elizabeth named the secret of her greatness: blessed is she who believed. Not blessed is she who understood everything, or blessed is she who was spared all sorrow, but blessed is she who trusted. This is why she is the model for our whole mission and our whole life. She shows us that a soul entirely surrendered to God becomes a channel through which He changes the world.

Oh Most Holy Theotokos, teach us to trust Him as completely as you did. 🤍

As we draw near to the feast of Our Lady's falling asleep, the Church turns our eyes gently toward a truth we so easily forget: for those who belong to God, death has been transformed. It is no longer an ending, but a passage into life.

This is why our tradition speaks so tenderly of the Dormition, the falling asleep, of the Theotokos. She did not vanish into nothingness. She passed through death into the arms of her Son, body and soul, into glory. And she goes before us as a sign of what awaits all who love Him.

If you are grieving someone today, hold onto this: you have not lost them forever. In Christ, every farewell is only until we meet again.

May the hope of the resurrection be a quiet light for every grieving heart today. 🤍

Today our Church honours the holy Apostle Matthias. After Judas fell away, the 11 apostles gathered to choose who would take his place among the 12, and after prayer, the lot fell to Matthias. He who had quietly followed the Lord from the beginning was suddenly called to the front.

There is something quietly hopeful in his story. Matthias was not chosen because he was the loudest or the most impressive. He was chosen because he had been faithful in the background, walking with Christ when no one was watching. And when the moment came, God called that hidden faithfulness into the light. So it is with us: the quiet, unseen love we offer now is never wasted. God sees it, and in His time, He raises it up.

May your hidden faithfulness be blessed, and one day brought gently into the light. 🤍

Today our Church celebrates one of her Great Feasts: the Transfiguration of our Lord. On Mount Tabor, before the eyes of Peter, James and John, Jesus was transfigured, His face shining like the sun, His garments white as light, and for one breathtaking moment the apostles glimpsed the glory that had been hidden within Him all along.

He gave them that vision because He knew what was coming. Before the darkness of the Cross, He let them see the light, so that when everything seemed lost, they would remember: this is who He truly is. And He offers us the same gift. However dark the valley you are walking, the light of Christ has not gone out. It is shining still, and one day it will flood every shadow completely.

May the light of Tabor reach into whatever darkness you carry, and remind you how the story ends. 🤍

Throughout the Dormition Fast, our Church prays the Paraclisis, a tender service begging the Most Holy Theotokos to intercede for those we hold dear. It is said that as her own falling-asleep drew near, Our Lady prayed without ceasing for her Son's disciples and for all who would come to believe.

She has never stopped. At the wedding in Cana, her last recorded words were a gentle instruction to us all: do whatever He tells you. She always turns us toward her Son. And there is no intercessor closer to His heart than the mother who bore Him. In these two weeks, we place our loved ones, and our own aching hopes, into her hands, trusting her to carry them to Him.

Most Holy Theotokos, pray for the ones we love, and for the ones with no one to pray for them. 🤍

Today, the 1st of August, our Church carries the life-giving Cross in procession, and begins the two-week Dormition Fast in honour of the Most Holy Theotokos.

It is a fitting way to begin. Before we celebrate Our Lady taken up into glory, the Church places the Cross before our eyes, for she of all people knew that the way to resurrection passes through surrender. She stood beneath that Cross and did not turn away. And so these coming days invite us, gently, to take up whatever cross we carry and to walk it as she did, trusting that God brings life out of every offering laid in His hands.

May the Cross you carry become, in His hands, a source of life. 🤍

Tomorrow, the first of August, our Church begins the Dormition Fast, two weeks set apart to walk closely with the Most Holy Theotokos as we make our way toward the feast of her falling asleep.

You do not need to have been faithful all year to enter these days. That is the beauty of every holy season the Church gives us: it is always an open door, always an invitation to begin again. God is not counting how far you have wandered. He is watching the road for your return, and He runs to meet the ones who take even one step home.

May these coming days draw your heart gently closer to Him, through the tender prayers of His Mother. 🤍
