Fighting Chance builds and empowers social businesses to create a truly inclusive economy where people with disability have unbridled access to opportunity, dignity and prosperity. Launched in 2011 by Laura and Jordan O'Reilly, Fighting Chance is inspired by the experience of their brother, Shane, who was let down by a society that defined him by his disability. We are redesigning what participation in the economy, and society, can look like so that disability is not a barrier. So far we have launched four social businesses: Jigsaw (an employment pathway which prepares people for work, through work); Avenue (a day program alternative where people with disability can join work and social activities) as well as Base Accommodation (a Supported Independent Living Service), and a support coordination service.

We are overflowing with gratitude and are thrilled to announce that Neville Hedge, Ross Paterson, and a fantastic community of supporters raised $23,447 for Fighting Chance at their 11th Annual Charity Golf Day!

123 players hit the fairways at The Glades Golf Club for a great cause. Massive congratulations to team The Nevs for sweeping both Best Score AND Best Uniform (judged on Hole 10 with matching grey wigs!).

A big thank you to major sponsors GH Civil Contractors and Eastern Plant Hire, Wagner’s ($20k Hole-in-One sponsor), all 18-hole sponsors, PGA Pro Paige Bringolf, and the 20 volunteers who made the day run so smoothly.

Help Our Garden Bloom! 🌱

Our incredible Plus day program participants have been working tirelessly in our Frenchs Forest Hub backyard, building raised garden beds from scratch! For our team, gardening is more than a hobby, it’s a hands-on way to build practical life skills, boost wellbeing, and foster meaningful connection in a supportive environment.

We are on the final stretch to bring this garden to life, but a few essential supplies fall outside our current budget.

We are seeking donations of:
- Seedlings & seeds
- Bird nets
- Stakes & trellises
- Pea straw

The Fighting Chance team came out in force yesterday, tackling all kinds of distances along the coast as part of the annual Beach2Beach running festival on Sydney's northern beaches.

Whether it was a quick dash or a longer haul, everyone put in a brilliant effort. Even our CEO, Nina, laced up her running shoes!

Best of all, we raised over $4,000! A massive thank you to everyone who took part, cheered from the sidelines, or chipped in a donation to support our work.

Give those sore legs a well-earned rest, and we will see you back out there next year.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day, and the beginning of World Autism Awareness Month – a time to move beyond awareness and toward genuine inclusion.

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that around 290,900 people have been diagnosed with autism. Among children and young people, this represents a growing and important part of our community.

But numbers only tell part of the story.

Behind every statistic is an individual with strengths, perspectives, and contributions that enrich our workplaces, schools, and communities. While many people on the autism spectrum still experience barriers in areas like education, employment, healthcare, and community participation, there is also growing momentum toward change.

Throughout April, World Autism Awareness Month invites all of us to listen, learn, and take meaningful action to build a more inclusive society.

At Fighting Chance, we believe in creating better supports, building inclusive workplaces, and designing communities where neurodivergent people can truly thrive.

Because awareness is just the beginning.
