Australia: Sydney light rail fire exposes public transport safety crisis -

A tram fire in the Sydney CBD highlights ongoing safety and reliability problems with the city’s increasingly privatised public transport network.

On 17 December 2025 we received the decision from the High Court which confirmed the primary judge’s judgment (see attached judgment and judgment summary). This means the applicants were successful for two out of the three grounds. The Court found that TfNSW caused substantial interference and private nuisance for certain premises and business along the light rail network. We will now commence the process of getting orders from the Court for the resolution of Group Members claims. This will likely occur early this year.
