Ever wondered what the difference is between Table Tennis and Ping Pong?🏓

With Marty Supreme being a hot topic on the streets (and in cinemas), we’ve been getting asked a lot lately:
What’s the difference between table tennis and ping pong?

The short answer:
There really isn’t one. Both terms describe the same sport and are often used interchangeably.

The longer (and more interesting) answer:
“Ping pong” is often used to describe the social side of the game — the version played at workplaces, in garages, or around the dining table, where family and friends battle it out for bragging rights.

Ping pong is also the official name of the sport in China, (pīng pāng qiú).

In the United States and some other countries, “ping pong” is also a trademarked variation of the sport, often played with sandpaper bats and slightly modified rules.

Table Tennis on the other hand is the official name of the Olympic Sport. Its often used to describe the more serious version of the sport.

So whether you call it table tennis or ping pong — you’re still talking about the sport we love.

The name just depends on how (and where) you play it.

And no… you won’t offend us if you call it ping pong 😉

Did you know Table Tennis is officially recognised as China’s national sport? 🏓

According to the International Olympic Committee and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), table tennis is one of the most participated sports in China, with hundreds of millions of recreational players across the country.

The sport has been central to China’s sporting identity since the 1950s and is widely credited with helping establish international sporting relations during “Ping Pong Diplomacy” in 1971. Since becoming an Olympic sport in 1988, China has dominated the medal table, winning the majority of Olympic gold medals in table tennis history.

🌧️ Caloundra Street Fair – Rain, Hail or Shine! ☀️

The Caloundra Street Fair markets are still planning to go ahead tomorrow morning. We’re hoping to catch a break in the weather early so our stallholders can get set up and ready to welcome you.

A slightly smaller market than normal (this wet weather is not for everyone and we understand that) but If you’re out and about, come take a stroll along Bulcock Street between 8am and 1pm, grab a coffee, a juice and a bite to eat, and enjoy a little weekend shopping with our fantastic stall holders and local retailers.

This time of year can be challenging for small businesses, and we’re proud to continue supporting them. We hope our locals and visitors will do the same. Every coffee, snack, and purchase helps keep our community vibrant.

So bring your brolly and wellies, get some fresh air, and enjoy the morning — a little water never hurt anyone! ☔️

Most importantly, please drive safely and to the conditions.

We’ll provide another update in the morning.
See you on Bulcock Street!
