a tragic update we wish to share with you:

On Friday, vessel MV Matui was travelling between Espíritu Santo and Ambae with over 40 passengers when it capsized.

Unfortunately, this was not made known to rescue teams until many hours later.

While survivors are still emerging, so are fatalities.

Our dear friend Charles Beru was one of the passengers, and he has sadly passed away.

Charlie has been with us from the beginning; from mangrove planting to climate discussions to simple chats over tea and bread.

Charlie was a father to 4 amazing children and devoted to his wife, Lena.

We are devastated by this loss. We are sticking close to his family and staying amongst the community at this time, as we participate in the kastom (custom) around mourning.

Please keep Charlie’s family in your thoughts🤍
