💛 This National Carers Week, we see you.

Every day, more than 160 people walk through our doors, and so many of them are carers: parents, grandparents raising grandkids, foster and kinship carers, people looking after partners, parents, friends and each other. Stretching every dollar and every hour for the people they love, usually without a thank you.

Our volunteers are carers too. Many have already done a full day of caring before their shift starts, then spend hours sorting rescued food, stocking the market, cooking, packing and delivering for our community.
None of it is paid, and most of it goes unseen.

This week is about changing that.
To every carer who shops with us, eats with us or volunteers with us: thank you. What you do matters, and you deserve care too.

Look what our community has been baking! 😍🍰🍪

One of our amazing customers made this cinnamon-crumble tray cake using the spiced banana muffin recipe from our Spice Bun Mix flyer, and it was light, fluffy and absolutely amazing!

And one of our wonderful volunteers whipped up a big batch of these golden choc chip cookies using our Spice Bun Mix. Just look at that crackle on top 🙌

This is exactly why we love rescuing food. Sacks of bun mix that could have gone to waste are now turning into cakes, cookies, buns and scrolls in kitchens right across Geelong 💚

Times are tough. You don't have to face them alone. 💚

This week the RBA lifted interest rates again, this time to a 15-year high.
Petrol, power, gas and water bills keep going up too, and for many households in our region the maths no longer works.

Our friends at Foodbank Victoria say demand for food relief is now the highest it has been in their 96 years. They report that 1 in 5 Victorian households are skipping meals or going whole days without eating. A recent Ipsos poll found groceries are now the biggest driver of financial hardship in the state, and more than half of the people surveyed said food was harder to afford in August than in July.

When the mortgage, rent, fuel and bills all need paying, food is often the first thing to go. Nobody should have to choose between filling the fridge and filling the tank.

That's where Feed Me comes in.

Every month, across Bellarine, Geelong and the Surf Coast, we rescue more than 150 tonnes of good food that would otherwise go to waste and put it on local tables instead.

There's no means test and no judgement. Grab a bag, fill it with what your household will use, and give a donation if you're able to. Everyone is welcome.

And we could never do this without our incredible team of superhero volunteers.

🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ They sort, stack, pack, cook, clean, drive and greet, rain or shine. Every tonne we save and every bag that goes home full is thanks to you.
We are so grateful for every one of you.

Thank you so much to our amazing highschools coming together for the community.

We are pleased to announce the funds raised at this year’s CLOGS Winter Ball was an outstanding $22,723.17!

These funds were split between 2 charities, chosen by the student leaders of the Catholic Geelong Schools as part of the planning of the event back in July. This week, the student leaders met to present the cheques of their fundraising efforts. Strong Brother Strong Sister was represented by Cormach Evans (Founder and Directing Manager) and Jorja Lewis-Jackson (Group facilitator and Youth Support Officer) and Lana Purcell (Founder and CEO) from Feed Me Geelong.

We hope our Year 12s had a wonderful night at the ball, but can also see the amazing work they’re a part of through the money raised from attending the event, and buying raffle tickets. Well done Year 12s!!

WE NEED SOME EXTRA HANDS WITH FOOD RESCUE 💚

Every week, Feed Me rescues huge amounts of good food that would otherwise go to waste and gets it back out to people in our community.

But right now, we really need some more people to help us with our food rescue runs.

And you don't need to commit to heaps.

Could you do just ONE rescue run a week?

Maybe you have a couple of spare hours one morning or afternoon. Maybe you're retired, work flexible hours, or simply want to do something practical that directly helps your community.

Even if one rescue a week is all you can do - that helps us enormously.

The more people we have sharing the load, the more food we can rescue, the more people we can support, and the more sustainable we can make what we do.

You don't have to already be a Feed Me volunteer either. If you've been thinking about getting involved, this could be the perfect way to start.

Or maybe you know someone who would be perfect for this?Please tag them or send this post their way.
