Southbank Sustainability Group

A group of green and sustainability enthusiasts in the Southbank community. A growing group of green and sustainability enthusiasts who live in Southbank.

Aiming to connect with fellow, like-minded individuals at the Southbank community garden. We meet twice a month at the Boyd Community Hub on Saturdays, where we do garden work, discuss ideas and community initiatives we can implement, and relevant City of Melbourne initiatives. To learn more about our next meet up or plans, send us a private facebook message. Our 3 main goals are to:
1. Build a community
2. Create and manage a communal herb & veggie garden
3. Improve sustainability and reduce waste through education and communal composting
in Southbank.

SSG puts COMMUNITY into community gardening 🌱
Meeting up with members that have been showing up for years 💚
New visitors to the garden is always so much fun 😎

On a disappointing note, the garden has experienced vandalism with the continued cutting of the hose and attachments going missing. These actions result in it being difficult for the group to get the job done.

📍We will be back in a fortnight on Saturday 24 October

A lovely warm spring morning at the Southbank Community Garden 🌞🌱

Among other things, we prepped and fertilised the garden beds, tidied up plants and removed scale insects from the lemon tree. 🍋

And, as always, there was plenty of watering, weeding and sweeping to keep us busy! 🧤🧹

A very productive morning all round. Thanks to everyone who came along! 💚

🌻 Another Productive Saturday at the Southbank Community Garden! 🥬

What a fantastic day getting our hands dirty and ticking off our garden to-do list! From feeding the beds with fresh worm juice to planting out lettuce and rocket, the garden is looking thrive-ready for the warming weather.

Here’s what we got up to today:
🌼 Checked in on our bright marigolds, nasturtiums, and strawberry blossoms
🥬 Tended to our young silverbeet, spinach, and kale patches
🧪 Gave the citrus trees and veggie beds some nutrient-rich worm juice
🧤 Sorted gloves, tidied up the tools, and raked the pathways

A big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who dropped by to lend a hand, share tips, and keep our urban oasis blooming! 🐝

Missed out today? No worries—we'll see you at our next fortnightly catch-up! 💚
