During the most recent Kangaroo management operations at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, 292 Western Grey Kangaroos and 85 Red Kangaroos were culled, remaining cull targets were 4,362 Western Grey Kangaroos and 1,602 Red Kangaroos.

A big year for killing Kangaroos in the ACT, no wonder they were so shy about disclosing the details to the Nature Knowledge Channel. In 2026 the kill is 652 animals more than in 2025 and 2,297 more animals than in 2024 and 2,591 more animals than in 2023 and the highest number targeted since 2019 (joeys not included in these numbers).

The Queensland Kangaroo population estimate in 2026 accounts for 54.7 per cent of the Australian mainland Kangaroo population estimate. The Queensland commercial quota in 2026 accounts for 57 per cent of the Australian mainland quota. The questionable Queensland estimates play a significant role (they do this every year) in distorting Kangaroo population estimates and resulting quotas in Australia. Here is what happened in 2025.
