R4Respect

R4Respect R4Respect is a youth run program which aims to prevent domestic violence through peer education. And above all, be respectful!

R4Respect is an education and prevention strategy led by young people to support young people in Logan and beyond to develop the values, knowledge and skills they need for respectful relationships. The focus is to prevent anti-social behaviour and violence before it occurs (Queensland Special Task Force on Domestic Violence, 2015; National Plan to Prevent Violence against Women and Children, 2014)

. R4Respect encourages a whole of community and whole of school response to foster healthier,
non-abusive relationships among young people. There is a recognised need for innovative digital communication strategies to reach young people from all backgrounds. The plan is for young people to develop and use digital mediums (on-line games, apps, social media and more) to better understand the values of respect and anti-violence, and apply them in their lives. This will be accompanied by school based educational activities and community-wide awareness.

This week we celebrate Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa. Samoa Language Week❤️

At R4Respect, one of our key messages is to ‘value diversity, value culture and celebrate difference’. Samoa Language Week is a chance to honour the strength of Samoan culture, uplift Pacific voices, and encourage young people to embrace who they are and where they come from. ✨

This year’s theme, “E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u” — “From the high mountains are the blessings of the village” — reminds us of the wisdom, strength and guidance passed down through our families, villages and ancestors.

Language is more than words. It carries stories, traditions, connection and belonging across generations. ❤️

Today is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

A reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported in their relationships and communities. 🏳️‍🌈🫶

At R4Respect one of our key messages is that 'we all have the right to be free from abuse and violence'. No matter who you are, your identity, sexuality or gender should never be used against you.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, it's important to know you're not alone. Reaching out to a safe person, whether that's a parent, trusted adult, friend, family member or an online service with trained professionals, can be the first step towards support and safety. 💜

National Reconciliation Week 2026

This year’s theme, “All In”, reminds us that everyone has a role to play in reconciliation, and that real change happens when we come together as a community.

It’s a time to learn, listen, reflect and stand together. At R4Respect, we believe reconciliation is about building respectful relationships, amplifying First Nations voices, and creating a future grounded in truth, respect and equality.

Mackay, thank you 🔥

Over 5 days, we delivered respectful relationships workshops across the region during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Together we:
• reached 10 schools
• delivered 16 workshops
• connected with around 2,400+ young people

We had honest conversations about domestic violence, sexual violence, consent, and the line between care and control - planting seeds and building the knowledge and skills that support prevention.

Huge thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Mackay Region and the Domestic Violence Prevention Council, and to every school that made space for this work 💙

Our final day in Mackay 🫶

Today we visited Mackay Northern Beaches State High School and Calen District State College, connecting with around 200–250 young people.

Together, we unpacked domestic violence, consent, and the line between care vs control in friendships and relationships.

Thanks to both schools for making space for these important conversations.

Another massive day in Mackay!

Today the R4Respect team visited three schools, connecting with more than 500 young people across workshops at:
• Sarina State High School
• Whitsunday Anglican School
• Kutta Mulla Gorinna Special Assistance School

At Sarina, it was great to see the different supports available for students, including a GP, social workers, nurses, chaplains and guidance counsellors.

Across the sessions, we unpacked what healthy relationships look like, how consent works, and when to ask for help. It’s all about supporting young people to build skills for safe, respectful relationships now and into the future.

Thanks for having us 🙌

Back for day three in Mackay 🙌

Yesterday we spent time with young people at Pioneer State High School and Mirani State High School, connecting with around 400 students across the day.

We had the opportunity to explore the beliefs young people have about friendships, relationships, domestic violence and consent.

We were also grateful to have Bob Atkinson, Vanessa Fowler and Angie from the Domestic Violence Prevention Council join us and see the work in action.

Huge thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Mackay Region and the Domestic Violence Prevention Council for supporting these workshops across the community 💙
