It appears that some feel we are trying to steal the limelight in getting Tones and I to Shepparton. In our hearts that has not been our intention -nor will it be ever!
Tones and I put out Australia wide to invite to towns and create pages to see who could get the most likes for consideration. She has already said she will support those towns who have been impacted by the fires.
When this page was created (like several other thousand pages Australia wide) I like others thought it would be a kind gesture for Shepparton to host for those communities.
This isn’t about taking anything away from Longwood, the affected region, or any other community, and it’s certainly not about ego or limelight.
The heart of this is simply about communities coming together to create something bigger that can raise as much support and funding as possible for people who have lost so much through the fires. There is no “us versus them” here every town, every shire, every community matters.
Our region understands disaster deeply. We went through devastating floods in 2022, and many people here know firsthand what it’s like to lose homes, livelihoods, and a sense of safety. That shared experience is exactly why people want to help, not compete.
This is about unity, collaboration, and compassion not division. Supporting fire-affected families should never feel like a competition between towns. The more people involved, the more awareness, the more fundraising, and the more support we can generate for those who truly need it.
I hope that helps clarify the intention behind this, which is genuinely coming from a place of care and community support.
So if you are reading this Tones And I know our intentions 🫶
