Some great news for the people in Lower Hunter Valley with the expansion of Martin's Creek Quarry dismissed by the Land and Environment Court.

In the court's judgement, Commissioner Peter Walsh and Acting Commissioner Michael Young said negative consequences of the project outweighed the positives.

"The beneficial impacts of the [application] relate principally to the supply of the quarry's product for the construction sector and particularly for infrastructure projects of public significance," the commissioners said.

"The negative consequences are particularly in relation to adverse traffic and pedestrian safety implications, and social and amenity-related impacts in the local area.

The Land and Environment Court has dismissed an appeal from Daracon to expand the Martins Creek Quarry, inland of Newcastle, which would have seen up to 160 trucks a day through small country towns.

Do you trust the consultants when they fail basic maths, and they are calculating the explosives....?

There are multiple places in the "Statement of Environment Effects" & "Appendix C - Noise & Vibration Impact Assessment - PAN-535491" where you say the operating hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm., and no work on Weekends & Public Holidays

Here the screenshots...

But there are 260 weekdays in a year, less when public holidays are considered, not 300 working days as stated in 10.2 Operation Traffic Noise.

So average of 7 truck movements a day, nope more like 8 truck movements per working day.

It's basic maths, if you failed this what else is wrong with the report?
Not sure we can trust the explosives calculations, the same company did them.

Wow, where do we start, here's a good one - Why do the neighbors have to leave their house and the public be excluded from public roads?

Because you want to blast some rock - sounds like you need a better plan.
Here's an idea, if it's not safe to use explosives, don't use them!

Lets go with the bottom of page 28 of the Statement of Environmental Effects.

It's been one of those days...
Over thinking what I can post up today that is thoughtful, witty and engaging, and nothing.

That made me look back on my life, and some of the poor choices that I've made...

Ok, none of them were as bad as deciding to want to build quarry in a stunningly beautiful area part of the world, like Shallow Bay, but there have been some....

Then like a lightning bolt, the sudden realization that not all of the subjects I took at Uni (many many years ago) were a waste.

The Remote Sensing, Satellite Imagery & Aerial Photo Analysis subjects might not have actually been a waste of time.

Citizen Scientists are a think, and there is so much content now available for people to engage with.

This video is satellite imagery of Shallow Bay, from Oct 2016 to Apr 2025 with up 44% cloud cover, generated from https://Copernicus.eu

A few points to note when looking at a time series of an area:
drought, time of day, cloud cover etc... are all visible in this timelapse.

So are changes in the treelines

And I forgot to put the Petition link on the post...
If you havn't signed the petition do it now, watch the video, and then sign the petition...

Lets talk about how some quarry developers treat the community they plan to impact...

This is from the Forster Fortnightly, 19th March 2025, about a mining company doing exploration work out at Mt George, Wherrol Flat, Bobin & Mooral Creek

Awesome work by local reporters, keeping the community informed.

Note the geology in these areas is very different to what we have here in Shallow Bay.

No one is making you sign the petition to stop the Quarry in Shallow Bay, however if you don't want a quarry in Shallow Bay then sign the petition and use the links we're providing to have your say...

In just 2 days this page has encouraged the community to find about what and where the proposed quarry is going, and shown there is a lot of passion and love for the area in the community.

The quarry proposal has it's defenders, and opposition.

I've made the decision to block all comments on these and subsequent posts made on this account.

People are welcome to share the posts to any group and have a discussion there.
