𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝘆. 😄

Behind one very cold Saturday night at the 13𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 was a much bigger purpose... something we deeply believe at LEAD: meaningful change happens when communities come together, raise awareness and turn compassion into action.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr Michelle Byrne, Frank De Masi. GAICD, Mici Beer, Jason Owen, Dr Jim Taggart, OAM, Melissa Monteiro, Sharon Debevc, and everyone involved in bringing the community together for such an important cause.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗 𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

‘I'm probably the wrong person to be here’…….that's how one participant quietly introduced herself at a SHIELD cyber safety workshop.

‘I don't really understand technology’, she admitted. ‘My children keep telling me to turn on these security settings, but I don't know what they mean’.

The LEAD facilitator smiled and said, ‘You're exactly where you need to be’.

As the workshop unfolded, the room began to change. Questions people had been too embarrassed to ask for years finally had a safe place to be heard.

‘So that's what multi-factor authentication actually does! I've heard that term so many times, but today is the first time anyone has explained it in a way I actually understand’.

After the session, participants stayed behind not because they were confused, but because they felt confident enough to ask for help.

One senior woman updated her phone software for the first time. Another created a secure passkey she could actually remember.

At workshops delivered in Punjabi and Indonesian, something equally powerful happened. Learning in their own language transformed complex cyber safety concepts into practical skills, giving participants the confidence to protect themselves, their families and their communities.

But perhaps the greatest success happened after the workshops ended.

Participants went home and shared what they had learned with their children, neighbours, friends and community groups. Many became informal cyber safety champions, helping others recognise scams and stay safe online.

That's the power of community education.

It isn't just about teaching people. It's about building confidence, creating conversations and empowering communities to look after one another.

Together, SHIELD reached 251 participants and created a ripple effect that continues to strengthen digital safety across Greater Western Sydney. Because when one person gains confidence, an entire community becomes stronger.

It started with a simple question...’𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲?’ By the end of the afternoon, that question had turned into smiles, laughter, confidence and a room full of people saying, ‘I didn't know I could do that!’

Our very first 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀' 𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, held on Sunday, 21 June 2026, brought together more than 35 seniors from diverse backgrounds, each arriving with their own experiences, questions and a willingness to learn something new.

What they discovered wasn't complicated technology. It was practical, everyday support that could make life just a little bit easier.

Together we explored how AI can help with things like:

💊 Understanding medications and health information
🍲 Finding meal ideas that suit individual needs
✍️ Writing messages, emails and letters with confidence
🎉 Creating birthday cards, speeches and special messages
📚 Learning something new, simply for the joy of it
📄 Making sense of confusing forms and official letters

The real highlight wasn't the technology – it was watching confidence grow.

People who had never used AI before started asking questions. The room was filled with curiosity, encouragement and plenty of laughter. It was a reminder that learning has no age limit and that digital inclusion is about opening doors, building confidence and helping people stay connected and independent.

We were honoured to have our CEO, Sharmily Mukherjee, invited to be part of Vaisakhi Mela 2026, a milestone event and historic first for Oran Park and the wider Macarthur region, led by the truly visionary Councillor Dr Abha Suri. Congratulations to Camden Council NSW Australia NSW, Cr Dr Abha Suri, Mayor Therese Fedeli, Cr Eva Campbell, Cr Peter McLean and Red Crown Events for bringing this remarkable celebration to life.

This event was a powerful example of leadership bringing communities together with purpose and heart, demonstrating that thriving communities and genuine belonging are built through collective effort and shared responsibility.
