⭐️ The Bedford Music Festival is here and I hope you’re ready for a full-day of live music and community spirit set against the backdrop of Westchester’s most beautiful grounds on September 6!

Attendees can enjoy delicious food and drinks from local vendors while kids can partake in a variety of engaging activities designed just for them!

The festival also offers a chance to explore Caramoor’s grounds and its unique sound art installation, Sonic Innovations, as well as the final weekend of the summer-long Focus Tour: Inside Lucie’s Wardrobe in the Rosen House. Visitors can take advantage of a free open house in the Music Room, book tours to see the full collection, or join scavenger hunts, I Spy clues, and musical crafts for a fun-filled family experience.

Performances throughout the day feature a stacked lineup, including The Motet at 7:00 PM, Jamie McLean Band at 5:15 PM, Summer Fling at 4:00 PM, and Rock and Roll Playhouse Plays the Music of Taylor Swift at 2:45 PM. Festival-goers can also browse the on-site marketplace featuring local shops and businesses like Second Mouse Cheese Shop, It Must Have Been the Bake, Taiguey Company, and Widow’s Peak Kitchen, with more vendors to be announced.

Additional activities include lawn games, cookie decorating, tie-dye making, bouncy castles, face painting, an instrument petting zoo, and a Zen Zone for wellness. The festival promises a fun day for all, rain or shine—with performances moving under the tent in the Venetian Theater in the event of severe weather. 🌦️

‼️JUST ANNOUNCED: Borderland Festival has officially announced the artist schedule for this year’s festival! 🎶 The three-day event, running from September 18–20 at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora, promises music, culture, and community.

This year’s lineup features an eclectic mix of national, regional, and local artists, covering genres from indie rock and folk to blues, soul, and bluegrass, giving music lovers a chance to experience everything within three days. Headlining the festival are Alabama Shakes (Friday, September 18), Jack White (Saturday, September 19), and Lord Huron (Sunday, September 20); this stacked lineup ensures a weekend of great live music, festival fun, and more for festival goers alike.

‼️BIG NEWS: The Empire State Development (ESD) announced on August 6 that Proctors Collaborative has broken ground on the renovation of the historic American Theatre in Downtown Troy. Located at 285-289 River Street, the venue, which originally opened in the 1920s—will be renovated into a modern single-screen movie theater with added performance spaces, further enhancing the cultural landscape of the Monument Square area.

The $7.1 million project, backed by nearly $1.9 million in ESD funding, aims to restore the theater’s original charm while creating a new hub for arts and entertainment in Troy. Once completed, the venue is expected to draw an estimated 30,000 visitors to downtown Troy annually, bolstering the ongoing revitalization efforts and expanding the region’s cultural and entertainment offerings.

Proctors Collaborative, the organization behind Proctors in Schenectady, Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, and Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs, is leading the restoration. The project includes preserving the building’s historic features and upgrading its exterior marquee and interior ticket lobby to reflect its original design.

‼️JUST ANNOUNCED: , the Los Angeles-based musical project of artist Ben Schneider is set to embark on an intimate and immersive tour, 23 Nights at the Broken Bottle, in late 2026 and early 2027 with three shows in New York, including Albany at the Palace Theatre on December 11 and two shows back-to-back in Brooklyn on December 18 and 19 at the Kings Theatre.

This “Traveling Residency” transforms each venue into The Broken Bottle, the iconic desert honky-tonk bar from the band’s fictional universe, offering fans an unparalleled “Evening With” experience.

‼️THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND FANS: Starting September 1, a new documentary: Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul, will make its way to over 40 one-night-only screenings across the United States, with three New York screenings in Auburn at the Auburn Public Theater on September 12 (8 Exchange St), Manhattan at The Cutting Room on September 15 (44 E 32nd St), and Tarrytown at Tarrytown Music Hall on September 25 (13 Main St Fl 2).

The film, which is an intimate and comprehensive exploration of the life, music, and legacy of the late Allman Brothers Band co-founder Gregg Allman, will be presented in performing arts centers, theaters, rock clubs, and even outdoor venues, giving fans a chance to experience the documentary on the big screen with high-fidelity sound systems. 🎶

☀️ Summer is closing with the Afribembe: Under One Sun’s 8th annual festival hosted by the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) as part of Harlem Week’s Harlem Day. Scheduled for Sunday, August 16 at W 135th & 5th Ave in New York City, this year’s festival holds special significance as it aligns with CCCADI’s 50th Anniversary and the conclusion of the organization’s year-long AfriCarnaval theme, which honors Carnival as a living tradition of culture, joy, and resilience.

The event features a Main Stage program from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, including a procession led by Los Pleneros de la 21 and Danza Fiesta, followed by performances from Pan Evolution Steel Orchestra and Kofago Dance Ensemble. Viannca Velez will host the evening, and attendees can explore CCCADI’s Oja Marketplace, enter giveaways, and view archival materials from the Community Archiving Lab for Culture and Justice.

Just across the street at Howard Bennett Park, the Afribembe Children’s Village will run from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, offering face painting, storytelling, Carnival headpiece making, and games for children of all ages. The festival’s title, Under One Sun, reflects CCCADI’s longstanding mission to unite the African Diaspora as one interconnected community. It also pays homage to the name of CCCADI’s official newsletter from the 1980s and ‘90s and a historic series of summer concerts in the late 1990s.

CCCADI, founded 50 years ago, is a cornerstone institution in Harlem and a national leader in cultural equity. Through exhibitions, education, advocacy, and community programming, it preserves and celebrates the cultures of the African Diaspora. In 2021, CCCADI and the Ashe Cultural Arts Center in New Orleans launched the AfriCarnaval Initiative to advance economic equity for artists and culture workers who sustain Afro-Caribbean cultural practices.

Exciting news! Jordan Galland is thrilled to be returning to the stage with a full solo set at Sanger Hall in Sunnyside, NYC on August 13. It’ll be his first proper solo show in the city in a while, and everyone can’t wait to hear new music from his upcoming album, No Rockstars, out October 13. 🎶

This show is a special moment for him as he has been making music in NYC since the late ’90s, first with Dopo Yume, then collaborating with artists like Cibo Matto, Mark Ronson, and Fischerspooner, all while continuing to write and release his own solo records. More recently, Jordan has been focused on filmmaking (including directing Ava’s Possessions, scored by Sean Lennon), but the songs and music never stopped!
