According to Bayside Council papers published recently KG has been allocated funding via the developer contributions scheme.

The estimate is $16 million and it has a rollout timeline of 1 to 4 years. We will keep a close eye on these developments and what aspects of the KG have been included in these estimates.

If you follow this page you know that it’s not just a path. A Greenway as we have seen in the Inner West, includes improvements to biodiversity, mangrove, wetland and creek health, a holistic approach to bush regeneration, water quality and flood management, First Nations storytelling, outdoor art… It is also an educational precinct, tourist destination and active transport corridor.

We had a LOT of petition sign-ups in December! It is so fantastic to see the community really getting behind this resident-led, grass-roots campaign! Here are some reasons our latest supporters are choosing to advocate for the Kamay Greenway:

"So my kids can safely ride from our house to their grandparents house!"

"The roads a choked. An alternative option is needed."

"As a resident all my life the area through the reserve corridor has changed and not always in a good way. This walk could secure a slice of nature for future generations and provide the area with a fabulous resource."

"Fun."

"Continuous off road cycle path to Captain Cook Bridge is needed. Botany Bay foreshore path is too crowded."

"We have wonderful cycling infrastructure in our community, but this is the missing link. With it, we not only have a wonderful recreational corridor but a viable safe transport routes for cycling commuters."

"I would love to see the Kamay Greenway come to life! In addition, I would love to see improved connections to other active transport links, waterways and green spaces around the Cooks River, Wolli Creek, Bardwell Creek and Alexandria Canal. For example, Wolli Creek residents have no direct route to Waterworth park and the Cooks River cycleway. Bayside has the best green spaces in Sydney with all our rivers and creeks, but so many of them are neglected. Please help make them a highlight of the city!"

"This is a fantastic initiative to preserve green spaces and provide a safe, family-friendly, environment for the community to enjoy nature and exercise."

"Let’s do it! If it’s good for the Inner West, it’s good for Bayside.!"

"With the rise in higher density housing we need to protect our green spaces and provide more ways for people to enjoy and appreciate them."

"We need more green and safe walking and cycleways in the Bayside area."

"We need a lot more safe active transport links in Sydney!"

How will the M6 active transport path connect to the incredible green spaces between Park Road and the Captain Cook Bridge? 🌿🚶‍♀️🚲

That’s a question many in our community have been asking and it’s one we’ve been exploring together. Over recent years, the Kamay Greenway Working Group has consulted widely and held multiple community walks to look at how the route could transition from Scarborough Central through to Park Road, Sans Souci.

Caring for the local environment and neighbours is central to this vision. Where a boardwalk is needed, any tree removed would be offset by planting two new trees nearby 🌱🌱. Sections of the route that run close to homes would be thoughtfully privacy-screened, and surface materials selected to minimise noise for nearby residents.

The GIF below shows the most complex part of the route, from the pedestrian bridge over Tonbridge Creek to Park Road, Sans Souci. This is the option the community has told us they prefer after exploring several options with us on community walks in 2025. This vision reimagines Margate Street as a calm, people-friendly quietway: separate paths for pedestrians, an on-road bike lane, parking retained, and a design that respectfully co-exists with the horse paddock 🐎

This is the route the Kamay Greenway Working Group is advocating for and asking Bayside Council to pursue as part of its planning. A safer, greener, more connected Bayside is within reach.

The AMAZING Cooks River to Iron Cove Greenway, on which the Kamay Greenway is modelled is opening today!

Read all about it in this article (and keep an eye out for a little mention of our project at the end! Thanks Nick!🤭)

A determined band of community campaigners championed the project to turn a disused rail corridor into a bike and pedestrian path. It’s nearly ready to ride.
