Since 2015, Tassie Mums has been a Tasmanian childrenā€™s charity providing free essential items to vulnerable and at risk Tasmanian children through a statewide network of support professionals. Last financial year, our volunteers helped give 187,360 items of children's clothing a second life.

But before an item makes it into one of our packs, there are lots of hands involved.

It's donated, checked, sorted by size and season, folded, stored and then carefully selected for an individual child.

That's a lot of little t-shirts, jumpers, jeans and dresses. And a lot of volunteer hours!

You don't need to fill an entire Pack of Love to be part of Packs of Love.

Pick up one extra pair of children's socks with your shopping.

Add a hat.

A packet of underwear.

A bottle of sunscreen.

Every single item can be brought together with others to create practical support for a Tassie child.

Tassie Mums would like to thank the Derwent Valley Council for its support in providing new socks and underwear to vulnerable and at-risk children throughout the Derwent Valley during 2025ā€“2026.

With their $600 community grant, we were able to make sure all 54 clothing bundle requests from the Derwent Valley were sent out complete with brand new socks and underwear.

Socks and underwear are one donation we cannot send out pre-loved! They are also one of the most requested items, but they can also be some of the hardest things for families doing it tough to find the money for.

Thank you Derwent Valley Council for helping us fill the gaps and make sure local children have the everyday essentials they need to feel happy and be healthy. šŸ§”

Each week, Tassie Mums supports on average 60 children and some weeks, as many as 80.

Every request for support comes to us through one of the 555 professionals registered with Tassie Mums who are working directly with children and families across Tasmania.

They tell us what each child needs. Our volunteers carefully sort and pack it. And everything is provided completely free of charge.

Clothing, nappies, toiletries, bedding and other essentials, thoughtfully packed for each individual child and given with care and dignity.

Can we take a moment to appreciate this beautiful collection of handmade goods? šŸ§”

All of these pieces have been handmade with pride (their tags are HMWP) by the women in the sewing room at Mary Hutchinson Womenā€™s Prison.

PJs, toys, nappy bags, bibs, burp cloths and more and this is just some of what we were fortunate enough to collect yesterday.

So much time, skill and care goes into making these items, and they will now become part of the packs we send out to babies, children and families across Tasmania.

Tassie Mums Community we need some help!šŸ§”

Our donations are coming in thick and fast and, looking at our shelves, youā€™d think we have HEAPS of clothing. (Just wait until you see our last photo! šŸ˜³)

But thereā€™s a problemā€¦

We are seriously short of practical, good-quality girls clothing in sizes 5ā€“9.

Right now, we especially need:

šŸ‘• T-shirts
šŸ©³ Shorts
šŸ§„ Hoodies & jumpers

If youā€™re cleaning out wardrobes these school holidays, weā€™d love you to have a look through your girlsā€™ sizes 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and consider passing on anything that is clean, in great condition and ready for another child to wear.

These are the everyday basics we use to build our clothing packs for children referred to us across Tasmania and at the moment, these sizes are getting very hard to fill.

Many of our collection points are actually the homes of our wonderful volunteers, so we donā€™t publish their addresses online.

Instead, we ask you to message us each time youā€™d like to drop off a donation.

There are a few good reasons for this.

šŸ§”Locations can change: Illness, availability, or other circumstances may mean a location is temporarily or permanently unavailable. Weā€™d hate for you to make the trip and find it closedā€”checking in ensures you get the most up-to-date info!

šŸ§”We can prepare: Letting us know in advance helps us (and our hosts) plan for large or multiple-item donations, making the process smoother for everyone.

šŸ§”You stay on track: Confirming with us guarantees your donation is going to the correct, authorised location, keeping your generosity safe and purposeful.

šŸ§”We can manage space: If someone offers 15 boxes of books, we need to consider shelf space, safety, and storage capacity. Checking in helps us handle everything responsibly.

šŸ§”It prevents dumping: Sadly, we donā€™t have the resources to deal with unexpected or inappropriate drop-offs.

Our collection hosts do us an enormous favour by giving up space in their homes and businesses to receive donations for Tassie Mums.

So please send us a quick message before every drop-off. Weā€™ll check the best location for you and make sure our host knows youā€™re coming.

There are lots of wonderful opportunities to give children toys and presents at Christmas.

Packs of Love is a little different. Weā€™re thinking about what happens next.

The long summer holidays. Hot sunny days. Growing feet. And before we know it, another school year.

Thatā€™s why weā€™re collecting practical things children can actually use - backpacks, sneakers, hats, sunscreen, new socks and underwear.

And of course, youā€™re very welcome to include a toy, book or activity to add something special for the child too. šŸ§”

Christmas is one day. A Pack of Love goes further.

This is what a busy day at Tassie Mums looks like!

Last financial year we fulfilled 9,186 requests for essential goods for children and families across Tasmania.

Behind those requests are clothing bundles, nappies, toiletries, bedding, toys and other practical essentials, all carefully packed for individual children and provided completely free.

And behind every trolley is one of the professionals who will make sure it gets where it needs to go.
