We’ve got some incredible volunteers at Tassie Mums, and Lilian is one of the 91 amazing people who give so much of their time and care.

After unfortunately breaking her ankle, Lilian had a quite a few weeks of respite and spent that time madly knitting and sewing!

These beautiful softies, pyjamas and hand-knitted cardigans are just gorgeous. 🐰🧶

The last photo is a clothing pack for a 5-6-year-old girl, with one of Lilian’s beautiful, colourful knitted cardigans on top.

So much care goes into everything she makes. We’re so lucky to have Lilian as part of the Tassie Mums family. 🧡

Help us give Lilian some love in the comments! 💕 What’s your favourite? The bunnies, the PJs or those gorgeous cardigans?

THESE AREN’T LUXURIES.

A hairbrush. Soap. Shampoo. Clean underwear and socks. Nappies and wipes for your baby.

They’re the everyday things most of us put in the trolley without giving them too much thought.

But when you’re trying to stretch a household budget across rent, electricity, food, fuel and everything else, even the basics can become unaffordable.

That’s why our September appeal with Coles matters.

Next time you’re shopping, could you add one extra essential to your trolley?

One small addition to your shop can make a very practical difference to a Tasmanian family doing it tough. 🧡

Sometimes volunteering gives something back, too.

Friendship, routine, connection, purpose or a chance to use skills built over a lifetime.

One of our volunteers simply wrote that volunteering brings her “joy and purpose.”
We couldn't say it much better than that.

The children we support benefit enormously from our volunteers, but these little notes remind us that community works both ways.

🪥Toiletries are the only item we provide specifically for adults, the caregivers of the children we support, and we send them right across Tasmania.

Our first photo is from a generous Eastern Shore donor who we happened to intercept at a collection point. When we thanked them, they simply said, “It’s just my way of helping.” 🥹

And what a wonderful way of helping! They seem to drop off donations every few weeks or so, and we are incredibly grateful. 🧡

The second photo is from Lyn in Shearwater, who not only sewed the beautiful bags but packed each one with lots of goodies, helping us get a head start on completing our toiletry packs. What an incredible gift of time, skill and generosity. 🧡

The third photo is from another anonymous donor who put together such a comprehensive toiletry pack that nothing needed to be added. How thoughtful is that?!

Last year, we sent out close to 1,400 toiletry packs across Tasmania, so donations like these are incredibly thoughtful and make such a difference.

These aren’t luxury items. They’re everyday essentials - shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, sunscreen, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more.

And now it’s September, which means our hygiene poverty campaign is in full swing! 🧡

We’re so excited to be partnering with Coles across Tasmania, making it even easier for our wonderful community to support the work we do and help tackle hygiene poverty.

So if you’re popping into your local Coles this month, keep an eye out for how you can get involved.

Together, we can make sure the basics are there for the people who need them. 🧡

A huge thank you to all of our generous donors, your kindness really does go a long way. 🧡🧡

Mums. Dads. Nans. Grandparents. Partners.

Family appears again and again in these little handwritten notes.

Perhaps that's not surprising as so much of what happens at Tassie Mums is ultimately about helping another family through a difficult time.

Our volunteers may never meet the children whose parcels they prepare, but they pack them with the same thoughtfulness they'd want shown to someone they love.

This is such an important question particularly when our community entrusts us with thousands of beautiful donated items every year.

One of the most important things to know about Tassie Mums is that we do not accept self-referrals.

Every request for support comes to us through a registered professional or service already working with the child or family. They identify that material assistance is needed and place a referral with us for the items that child needs.
There can be many reasons for that need; financial hardship, homelessness or housing instability, family violence, foster or kinship arrangements and other difficult circumstances. Often, families are facing more than one challenge at the same time.
But there is another important part to the answer.

Over almost 11 years of operating Tassie Mums, we have developed considerable experience in delivering material aid across Tasmania. Behind every order we prepare are well-established processes and safeguards that help ensure the support entrusted to us reaches children and families experiencing genuine need, and that our resources are distributed fairly and responsibly.
Those systems have been developed and refined over many years, while still allowing us to respond appropriately when circumstances are particularly difficult.

Because running Tassie Mums is about much more than collecting donated goods and giving them away.
We operate a professional, statewide material-aid service. That means taking great care with every resource entrusted to us, responding to changing needs across Tasmania and making sure the generosity of our community reaches as many children as possible.

So whether you donate a packet of nappies, a beautiful bundle of clothing, a pair of shoes, toiletries, books or toys, you can be confident there is an experienced and established service behind your donation helping it reach a child who genuinely needs it.
It’s a responsibility we take incredibly seriously, because your donations deserve to be treated with the same care and thought with which they were given. 🧡

IT’S BACK! 🧡

For the third year, Tassie Mums and Coles are joining forces to help ensure Tasmanian babies and children experiencing hardship have access to the everyday essentials many of us take for granted.

Throughout September, you can shop and donate at Coles stores across Tasmania.

Nappies. Wipes. Shampoo. Toothpaste. Toothbrushes. Socks. Un**es. Baby toiletries. Baby bottles. Nappy cream.

They’re ordinary items. But when a household budget simply doesn’t stretch far enough, these essentials can become difficult to afford.

That’s hygiene poverty, and throughout September, we’re asking Tasmanians to help us do something about it.

🛒 Simply add an extra item to your shop and donate it in-store.

One extra item might not feel like much. But when a whole community does it? It adds up to something pretty special. 🧡
