Macalister 4WD Touring and Social Club

Website

Macalister 4WD Touring and Social Club Macalister 4WD Touring and Social Club was formed in the early 1990's. We follow the 'Tread Lightly principles' and sustainable four-wheel driving and camping.

The Aims of the club are to strongly support the activities and principles of Four-Wheel Drive Victoria and provide facilitation for 4WD owners within Central Gippsland to enjoy this wonderful recreational activity in a rewarding and responsible manner. We welcome all types of vehicles. We also welcome people from all demographics. From the youngest to the matured 'grey haired' and beyond. Families, retirees and all in between, and those who wish to participate in a great recreation under safe and legal conditions. Macalister 4WD, Touring and Social Club embraces the words:

4-Wheel Drive
- to promote and advance the use of four-wheel drives as a responsible recreation. Touring
- some members have caravans or camper-trailers and use them for basecamps and touring as a group. Social Club
- this is a very important part of our activities and is integral with all our events. The club arranges a number of very easy/medium 4WD trips and the occasional difficult one, however, the usual reason for the event is to experience the wonders that the Australian bush provides, and not to test the vehicle or the driver. The club undertakes to support the Land Managers, such as Parks Victoria and DELWP in volunteer duties such as 'Track Clearing', 'Clean Up the Bush' and other activities through cooperation with government, local organisations and Four-Wheel Drive Victoria. The Club offers training in subjects such as '4WD Proficiency', Chainsaw Operations', 'Track Classification Training', 'First Aid', just to name a few. For more information or enquiries, contact us via email: [email protected], or by attending one of our monthly meetings held on the third Wednesday of each month [expect December] at Sale Greyhound Club in the Champions Room at 7:00pm. All are welcome.

For those interested, here is the slippery slide we didn't plan on, but we all got thru without any damage ... just took a bit of teamwork.

Another epic trip in the high country.

It's amazing how different it is when you compare wet weather to the dry. We even reverted to the "easier" track and still had to use the winch.
Here's some photos with the videos to come.

Our next trip is to Mt Useful & Toombon Historical Area on Sunday 27th September meeting at 8:45am in Heyfield.
We had a few members come along on the recce last week with all giving the trip a big thumbs up 👍.

Looking at the forecast, we are in for perfect weather.

This trip is rated as Medium using the track classification scale.

We love having visitors attend but please get in contact with us prior as we have to comply with Four Wheel Drive Victoria rules regarding due diligence - nothing bad, just basic procedures.

Here's a "sample tasting" of what to expect.

We'll be out and about this Thursday doing a recce for the upcoming Mt Useful/Toombon trip later in the month.

To "wet' your appetite, this little video is from Fulton's Creek Track a couple of months ago when we got caught in the rain.

Our 3 Waterfalls/Strzelecki Ranges trip on Saturday was another success with us actually visiting 6 waterfalls in 4 locations as we zig-zagged our way thru the Strzelecki Ranges. The trip ended a bit later than planned due to the unexpected necessity to remove a large fallen tree (now known as the "wow" tree).

Just a reminder that the club monthly meeting is tomorrow night at 7:00pm in the Champions Room, Sale Greyhound Club.

As customary, we will gather for a social meal at 5:30/6:00pm in the Graze Bistro.

This is our first meeting on a Wednesday night, and everyone is most welcome to attend.

We spent yesterday finalizing the 3 waterfalls and more - Strzelecki Ranges club trip which will be on Saturday 22nd August. Here's a snippet, but you really have to see them up close to appreciate how magnificent they are, especially after the rain at the weekend.
