Our group took part in the Gippsland Community Leadership Program in 2022, working in partnership with A Better Life for Foster Kids: a
Gippsland-based charity that supports children and carers in the out-of-home-care system. We had 39 schools along with businesses, organisations and individuals all supporting the event. We are all passionate about supporting this amazing local charity and aim to
raise awareness and funding to support kids in out-of-home care. In total, 10 children in every 1000 in Victoria are on care and protection orders (14,947 children across Victoria) (Australian Institute of Health Victoria) (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2021). Each year, A Better Life For Foster Kids provides Crisis Cases to around 1600 children entering care, to ensure their needs are taken care of with dignity, and to relieve mental and financial burden of carers. They advocate to government for better policies for kids in care and carers, as well as host an annual camp and support kids in care to participate in after school activities.
