Hey everyone! Itās been a while since weāve posted, so I wanted to say hi and give a debrief on whatās been happening.
(Future Grace is reading this and realising it is long, oops. š
TLDR: Pigs are okay, just aging and complex. Life stuff means that there wonāt be any open days/grooming next year but that means less stress and more time to focus on pigs, online/message orders of pig food and goodies as well as more educational content.)
In general, the pigs are tracking along nicely. We do have an ageing population of piggies now that weāre no longer taking in surrenders. In all honesty, itās been such a relief not taking on any newbies, despite how hard it is to say no. Itās given us the chance to slow down and focus on the pigs we have here (which is still enough to fill 26 cages!). š«
At the moment, and for a while, our focus has been to lay low and focus on the pigs. While that hasnāt been amazing financially, weāre coping as best we can on that front and the pigs are doing well. We did lose Bleasby to a very fast GDV not too long ago. And Otto, our eldest is truly aging, along with Aries. In addition to all of the other piggies and their ailmentsā¦but hey. We have a great vet and we know what to do when things go wrong. Couldnāt really ask for more!
In the new year (wild that it is already December), we donāt plan on holding open days. We also donāt plan on offering grooming again for the foreseeable future, Iām so sorry! Life has moved pretty fast this year, and priorities are shifting. The pigs will always be cared for, thatās something that will never drop off. We just wonāt be taking on any more, or engaging as much with the more public in-person side of rescue. We will still have our online store and message-to-order options up and running though! So we will continue to have all of the piggy food (hay, veg and pellets) and toys available. Just for contactless pick up or delivery instead.
Thereās a fair whack of guilt associated with stepping back but also a lot of relief. Getting to enjoy the pigs again has been so much fun. A break from the doom and gloom is nice š
Now that plans are more solid for next year too, things are looking busy, but amazing. As a rescue, weāll be focusing on the pigs weāve got, funding their complex care through orders and education. Now thereās less pressure, Iām much more excited about getting back into more social media posts about general pig things - not constant apologies for being full or continuous not-great pig updates. I anticipate there will still be not-great updates in the future, but less and in conjunction with nice, educational, happy contentā¦I hopeš¤š¼. Full time uni and teaching is and will continue to be busy, but Iāll be making an effort to stay present in the online space, especially since weāre not doing much of the in-person stuff anymore.
Anyways. That was a long winded update. Sorry!
Overall, just wanted to say hi, the pigs are okay, weāre okay. Things are changing, but for the better I hope! ā¤ļø
