Capricornia Arts Festival
The inaugural year
A group of artists from across the region have banded together to form a committee to set up the first Capricornia Arts Festival. The festival will run from Friday 16th October through to Saturday 24th October 2015. This event will include an Arts Trail winding from Byfield through Yeppoon, Emu Park, into Rockhampton, through Gracemere and into Mt Mor
gan. It will be an eight day event with lots happening along this trail. Find us on Twitter
The festival would kick off on a Friday night with a wine and cheese night at a local venue showcasing many works of local artists. Saturday and Sunday would be art workshop days where professional Australian artists would run workshops in many different mediums and styles of art at various locations across Capricornia. These workshops will cater for artists of all ages and levels. More workshops would be held throughout the week, in the day time and at night. The festival would wrap up with an art trail across the region. Artists would submit entries for a range of art prizes (see list below) and then be displayed in local businesses who are sponsors of the event on the Saturday. The art trail would end at a gala dinner where the winners of the categories will be announced. The committee is calling for Expressions of Interests from art groups who would like to run workshops throughout the festival, businesses who would like to sponsor the event (see Sponsorship Packages below), Australian artists from across the country who would like to travel to the region to run workshops, musicians who would like to perform at events and performing artists who would like to perform at events. More about the art trail
The idea of the art trail would be to showcase art entries at local businesses. Art enthusiasts would start at one location - ie a coffee shop or restaurant that provides breakfast, and work along the trail to other local businesses including a couple that also provide lunch. A map will be created and published in the festival's program. It is hoped local musicians, dancers and performing artist would be set up along the art trail to showcase their talents to the art enthusiasts. Awards
