Rockhampton and Environs Affordable Community Housing Limited (REACH Limited) is a local not-for-profit non-government organisation providing safe, affordable housing options for people who are homeless or at the risk of homelessness. REACH Limited is funded by the Department of Housing and Public Works, through head leased properties, and is able to provide our service to the community through th
e funds collected from the rent roll. REACH Limited has an affiliation with the Rockhampton Regional Council and the Rockhampton Catholic Diocese, where properties are managed on behalf of both organisations. REACH Limited is the direct result of the amalgamation of five tenant-managed Housing Co-operatives. In early 2001 local Community Housing groups began discussing options for addressing long-term organisational viability. In the same year funding was obtained from the Department of Housing (DOH) for Queensland Community Housing Coalition (QCHC) to begin the Rockhampton Viability Project. On the 15th February 2002 the amalgamation was launched by the Honourable Robert Schwarten, Minster for Public Works and Housing. This process was led by a Project Manager who facilitated a series of workshops and meetings between all of the organisations to prepare for the creation of REACH Limited. This amalgamation was the first project of its type in Queensland and was tracked closely by the Department and the Minister, and the success of the amalgamation was implemented throughout the state of Queensland over the next five years. ONE SOCIAL HOUSING SYSTEM – REACH Limited operates as part of the One Social Housing System. REACH ensures that clients have access to information about the One Social Housing System and how to apply for housing assistance. Please click here for further information. ACCREDITATION – REACH Limited is funded under the Housing Act 2003, and as such, has obtained accreditation by the Queensland Community Housing Standards and Accreditation Council, as the organisation currently manages more than 100 tenancies. In 2013, the State Accreditation System will be transferred to a National Regulatory Scheme. COMMUNITY HOUSING RENT POLICY – REACH Limited complies with the Community Housing Rent Policy, which states that a tenant will be charged 25 or 28% of the household income, depending on the program they are housed under, plus any rent assistance attracted to the organisation.
