I was returning home through the storm last night when I was hailed from the wharf at Deerrubbun. A mother up at Bar Point(water access only) had a child going into anaphylactic shock. She had called for an ambulance, she also put out a call for help on Facebook. My friend on the wharf had noticed she had posted over half an hour before. He had an epipen and wanted to get it to her. He jumped on board Spirit of Brooklyn and we sped off into the storm at full revs. The river was choppy,,the wind was strong and there were powerful strikes of lightening and crashing thunder to add to the drama. We got there as fast as we could, my friend lept ashore and ran up to the house.......we got there in time.
Later I tried to find out if there had been any ambulance response from the ambulance service and the police who often transport the paramedics by police boat..no luck for privacy reasons..
I was told in these circumstances it would be either the police or water taxi or a helicopter that assisted... well it certainly wasn't helicopter weather.

A challenging evening on the water yesterday.
I think the valley that ends in the Tom Richmond Oval funnels the southerlies into the western end of Sandbrook Inlet. Many large heavy craft moored between Kangaroo Point and Brooklyn have dragged their moorings. Many boats endangered by their proximity to each other . Struggled to move a very heavy steel ferry threatening to smash into a large catermeran. It took a considerable time to manoeuvre that onto the police mooring due to constant strong winds.. If you have a boat moored in this area I would suggest you come and check if it is now in a safe and secure place. It seems that the only vessels not affected by the winds were close to the shore or on double moorings. Our thanks to the power boat that came and helped.
