ArtSpace at Realm is a purpose built contemporary arts venue at Realm, Maroondah City Council's library, cultural, knowledge and innovation centre. Located at the Ringwood Town Square entrance, Realm is directly opposite Ringwood Station and is easily accessed by public transport. The R & M McGivern Prize is an acquisitive award and the winning artworks will become the property of the Maroondah City Council Art Collection. The Prize aims to promote artistic excellence in painting and build a high-quality collection for the Maroondah region.

The 2025/26 R & M McGivern Prize for painting calls all artists from around Australia to address the theme of ATMOSPHERE.

The atmosphere that surrounds us sustains and shapes our lives. For artists, the influence of atmospheres, both physical and emotional, on visual perception is fundamental

In Australia and around the world we are experiencing powerful impacts of climate change and shifting social, cultural and political atmospheres.

The R & M McGivern Prize and exhibition invites artists to respond to their notions of ‘atmosphere’ – from the momentary to the monumental.

The annual poster competition run by the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) recognises the power of art to amplify First Peoples’ voices. Displayed together, the posters from the past five decades cover an extraordinary breadth of artistic styles from artists across Australia and tell a compelling story of strength, resilience and action.

A new exhibition is coming to Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery!

'Serving Country'
Belinda Mason OAM and Garen Smith

Launch event: Thursday 4 June, 6 - 8pm
- With a Welcome to Country and performance of Indigenous American flute and drum by Chiricahua Apache, Wolf Clan and Huilliche-Mapuche artist One Bear
- Opening words from Lieutenant Colonel, Associate Professor Joseph West and Jason Deane

'Serving Country' is an exhibition of photographs and paintings that recognises and acknowledges the valuable contribution of Australian First Nations servicemen and servicewomen who have served, or are serving, in the Australian Defence Force.

The 'Serving Country' photographic portrait project was conceived by social documentarians Belinda Mason OAM and Dieter Knierim in 2014. The exhibition includes work by Australian Army veteran and Murrawarri artist Garen Smith. Presented alongside the portraits, Garen's textured, symbolic paintings explore resilience and cultural strength, drawing on his lived experiences and service in the Australian Defence Force.
