Murnong Creek after all the rain.

It rises at Barrm Birrm (in the mist) and crosses the paddocks to flow under Whittakers Lane.
Then it flows down a linear reserve at the bottom of resident’s backyards.
Then between the bakery and Spices and Pestle and under the Main Rd.
It’s speeding up when it gets to the mural and flows under Sutherlands Rd.
Under Station St and the old bluestone bridge, past our recent plantings spreading out across the paddocks.
Channeled once again by a bluestone culvert, it flows under the railway line eventually joining Riddells Creek.

Spring Clean of Murnong Creek!

Eight bags of rubbish, one office chair and a star picket collected. Ten trees and shrubs planted. Two trailer loads of fallen timber and branches removed.

Not a bad effort by 9 community members! Thanks to all who attended. A great morning’s work!

Dust off your gumboots (obviously I have yet to do this) and join us tomorrow from 9am as we ‘Spring Clean’ Murnong Creek!

Meet at either the rear of the Medical Centre for litter picking, mulching, blackberry removal and planting. Or the bakery for litter picking. Look for the tables with the sign-in sheets.

Bring gumboots or waders if you think you’ll be stomping up the middle of the creek! Otherwise closed toe shoes/boots, long pants, hats (it’s going to be sunny) and gardening tools. Gloves provided.

And wear hi-vis if you have it so we can see you if you fall in! 🛠️ 🪏👩🏻‍🌾🍃😊

Beautiful weather last Sunday.
Even better forecast for this Sunday!

Come and join us for a morning of picking up litter, cutting back blackberries and other weeds, spreading mulch and planting plants.

Meet 9am at the bakery for rubbish retrieval in Murnong Creek (bring gumboots or waders). Gloves supplied.

Meet 9am at the rear of the Medical Centre for rubbish removal (we’d love to get the shopping trolley out!) from Murnong Creek and all other activities. Bring appropriate tools.

It’s spring!!

Time for a ‘Spring Clean’ of Riddells Creek.

Join us on Sunday the 20th of September from 9am as we pick up rubbish along Murnong Creek, plant some more plants, spread mulch and remove a few more blackberries.

Just letting our community know that Jodie from Little Vic’s who is a great supporter of Reimagine Riddell; has just won Best Brekkie Pie in Australia in the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition!

Well I had to test this pie out! You can see I was standing on the platform of the railway station when I chomped into it! It was fantastic! An egg and several layers of bacon on top of a traditional meat pie filling encased in golden crispy pastry. Swoon!!!

Mary-Anne Thomas MP and Annette Death - Labor for Macedon visited Riddells Creek last week and admired the part result of the Tiny Towns grant to reveg Murnong Creek as well as install budlights in the street trees in Station St.

The budlight installation program is progressing slowly with approval from MRSC still needed.

Christine and Melanie cleaned up this little weedy patch beside the bridge on Station St.
They planted lomandras, climbing saltbush, wallaby grass, bidgee-widgee and clustered everlastings. Hopefully they will get enough sun and rain to thrive!

We started the day with an 8 year old who showed us how to dig out blackberry roots!

Then it was on to planting, covering the soil with cardboard, mulching (thanks PM Tree Worx & Stump Removal!) and fencing.

Thankyou members of Riddells Creek Men’s Shed, Riddells Creek Lions Club, Riddells Creek Landcare, Tamara, Bev, Vince and their two small but mighty helpers!
