Rescue Update 🐈‍⬛
Ghibli and the babies

On our last post we said we would update about Gyspsy's child Ghibli and her 3 kittens and here we are.

On the 14th of January we set everything up to trap and take in Ghibli (10-11 months old) and her 3 babies (7-8 weeks old).
Usually these guys would show up at 3pm for a late lunch, but of course on the day they decided to skip their usual routine and had me in waiting mode all day😣.

The goal was to get all 3 kittens and Ghibli in 1 go or at the very least, all 3 kittens and try for Ghibli another day if needed. We knew the kittens were infested with fleas so we planned to flea/worm treat them straight away and had a pen set up in the laundry so the treatment could do its magic before bringing them inside to their new home.

Just after 6pm they finally appeared. Only 2 were going in the trap and we were still waiting for the 3rd to appear, mum was being wary and waiting in the edges of the trap. After even MORE waiting, the last kitten finally appeared and I made the snap desicion to drop the trap, unfortunately not getting mum in that go but we did get all the babies.

It was slow moving to get each kitten moved out of the trap, flea/worm treated and popped into the pen 1 at a time. They did not wanna move into the transfer trap and make things easier for us, so we had to carefully lift corners of the trap to scuff them, then swaddle in a blanket to apply treatment and pop in the pen.
Now remember I am still in a leg brace and can't bend 1 leg, so getting up and down carefully to shuffle through the house was a whole process, my partner stayed with the kittens in the trap and kept trying to get them into the transfer trap as I was doing the rounds. But we did it! 😮‍💨And vet appointment was made for the following morning for health checks, FIV tests and vaccines.

I wasn't completely satisfied though. I could not rest until we caught mum as well, so it was back to the waiting game. Trap was reset and our fingers crossed that mum hadn't been too frightened away by the first trapping.
This lady had me waiting till 10pm! Her brothers had arrived for their dinner and kept eating the food in the trap and just hanging out under it, while Ghibli (to smart for her own good) would wait at the door being all 'um excuse me i ordered dinner without a cage?'. FINALLY her brothers left the trap and Ghibli, now very hungry, went under and we were able to catch her.

She caught me caught me quite of guard with how strong she was, moving the whole trap as she ran at the edges. It took awhile of trying to keep the trap in place and the transfer trap in the right position to avoid escape for her to finally admit defeat and just slink on in. At last full success! I was able to relax a bit knowing mum and babies were safe 😺.

We went to vet in the morning for all their checks ups. We decided not to have Ghibli desexed straight away so her and kittens had time to settle and adjust together before she would get separated for her surgery and recovery. All cats were given the all clear for health, vaccinated and mum flea/worm treated. They were all very well behaved at their visit, mostly being squirmy and hissy, but no shannagins. The kittens were at least a 1kg or more underweight for their age, but we had plans to fatten them all up.

The family includes
▪︎ Ghibli - mum
▪︎ Shrapnel - white and black, female, 1kg, absolute spitfire.
▪︎ Kickback - tabby with white, male, 0.8kg, tiniest quietest boy.
▪︎ Bombshell - full tabby, male, 0.9kg, surprisingly chill after freaking me out with a bite during the transfer. It wasn't bad, he mostly just gave me a bruise from hitting my bone.

We waited until the following day to to move them all into their new environment as we needed to wait at least 24hours for the flea/worming treatments to kill off all their fleas.
They are all now in their new home and while still a bit timid they are settling in nicely. They all allow us to give them small scritches and head pats, but are still a bit hissy.
Shrapnel being the most vocal, always hissy and growling when we enter the room but she is also the only 1 that is currently accepting liquid treats and who we can touch the most. Her growling while licking a treat is adorable and hilarious 😆and I will put up a video when I get it on camera.

For now we are taking it slow, we make sure to give them little touches once or twice a day and attempt to give the others treats. They are getting plenty of food and kitten milk as a little treat. They are absolutely in love with their comfy bed, so much so they can't even keep their eyes open to watch us when in it. They are also getting used to me going in their and tidying everything up for them.

They have only been in their new home for 4-5 days but are making improvements each day. I will keep posting updates for them.

Rescue update 🐈‍⬛
Part 3 - Gypsy's kittens return

Summary so far: Gypsy, who we had been feeding and slowly gaining trust for nearly a year, shows up 1 day at the end of May with 5, 3month old kittens. 1 was hit by a car and we decided we had to get them ASAP. On the day we planned to trap them they stopped showing up and were no where to be found.
We trapped Gypsy mid July and had been slowly trying to socialise her.

The Saga continues:
To our surprise in mid October 2025, 3 of these kittens just reappear out of no where.
We had been continuing to feed a different stray that had appeared at our door after Gypsy was taken in, we will post about him another time. So food was still being put out front.

One night we look outside to see a streak of black and white dash away as soon as they were seen. My thoughts were originally, oh no a new stray has appeared😖.
After a couple days I was finally able to get a good look at our new visitor and thought 'hmm that tuxedo pattern is very familiar 🤔 '. A couple more days and another cat appears who is definitely the white and black kitten of Gypsy. Another week goes by and we finally catch a glimpse of the last black kitten of that litter.
Originally there had been 2 black kittens, but the 2nd black kitten never returned. We hope that someone one took it in, but we will never know.

As happy as we were to see these guys, their timing couldn't have been worse. Gypsy was still very wary and taking up our big cat cage, we were preparing for a trip out of state and I also had a surgery lined up after we got back.
So our plan was to continue feeding them until after my surgery, building trust and work out a plan, as these guys were now about 7months old and probably would not all comfortably fit in a cage together.

These guys are real Characters, and got comfortable with us pretty quickly after that. They got into a routine of always coming in the evening, Ghost Face(white and black) and Ghibli (tuxedo) would show up between 7-9pm and Soots Incognito (black) around 10-11pm as he was the most skittish of the 3.
During my recovery after surgery my partner took over looking after all the Rescues and the Strays. I was a little hurt that they seemed to like him over me but he has that affect on cats.

These guys started showing up more regularly, appearing in the afternoon and even in the morning, getting meals any time they liked. They started to get very vocal and we were delighted to find out they all had the cutest little beeps. They would jump up to the windowsill every night alerting us of their presence, demanding dinner or watching the TV.
Their colour and sounds made us realise that our regular stray Mr Tom was proberly their dad, he and all his children have the same little beeps. We will eventually get him off the streets but the females in the colony always take priority.

I was very uncomfortable though as we did not know the gender of the cats and I was worried they would get pregnant from the other tom cat we'd been feeding.
In November we noticed Ghibli getting a bit bigger but she was still very wary and it was extremely hard tell if she just had a food baby from the extra food we were giving them or pregnant.

One afternoon when she was particularly brave, she stretched up the window and we saw her tummy which definitely looked like she had been nursing 😣, so definitely a girl and definitely had kittens.
At the end of December we discovered that she had indeed had kittens under our house. So a new plan is currently in motion. Due to my current condition things weren't moving quickly but we started feeding the kittens and keeping an eye on them. I reached out to other rescues for help but again, they were all full (always understandable).

I will do a separate post of these guys but plans are in motion and we hope to catch them and Ghibli this week. 🤞we don't have another disappearing kitten situation.

As for the brothers Ghost Face and Soots Incognito, we will continue to reach out to other bigger rescues in hopes they can take in 1 or 2 more cats, as after we get these kittens and mum we are well and truley at full capacity until some of our guys are adopted.

Rescue Update 🐈
Part 2 - Gypsys rescue story (really long one, sorry 😣)

Some Gypsy backstory. Normally we never really know the story of how a cat lands on the streets, but I was made aware of her story from an uber driver I had while taking our rescue kitten Athos for vet check up.

At this point Gypsy was still on the street, but we had worked out that our original 3 kittens from our Revesby Colony Rescue were actually hers and not Kissy's (Kissy had just taken on looking after them once they started exploring and weaned off mum). So Gypsy is the mum of Athos, Harmonica and Maximilian (who was already adopted).

The uber driver said Athos looked alot like his 2 cats and showed me pictures (almost identical!). He told me how he got his 2 cats from his brother, when I asked more about them he told me that his brother was not able to give away the remaining kittens and had dumped the last 2 kittens in Revesby Park, as there were already cats there.

Now this is not an uncommon story but always a tragic one😞. And I'm not going to spew hate on a guy who is driving me and ask for his brothers details. As upsetting as this story is, all I could do was talk about rescue work and explain why we do what we do. I talked about TNR to stop over population, services available and places people can take cats instead of dumping. I'm not gonna change the mindset of every person I meet that cats deserve as much respect as people, BUT I do know some of what I said got through and I hope that maybe, just maybe he passed some of that info to his brother so it won't happen again.

So we know Gypsy was dumped in Revesby Park about 3ish years ago, with a sibling who we never saw as it was before we came to the area. Such an experience would of been traumatic and we don't know if she also witnessed something bad happen to her sibling. So her extreme wariness and distrust made alot more sense.

We were originally thinking of doing a TNR, like one of our other Revesby strays (Striker) but hearing her story made us determined to get her off the street and give her a 2nd chance at life. So after the disappearance of her most recent litter, we made plans to trap Gypsy.

We have trapped many cats before, but never have I seen a cat freak out as much as her once the trap came down. She was freaking out and smashing her face against the cage, I was scared she would break her face😦. We moved as quick as possible, got her into the transfer trap, moving her to a quiet room with a thick blanket over her to calm her down. Only checking occasionally to make sure she wasn't still bleeding (if she had been it would of been straight to a 24hour vet).

Though she was none to pleased with us, she did calm down and was taken to the vet in the morning for her health check, vaccinations and neutered.
She did have to be sedated straight away so the vets could do their checks, but she did very well and thankfully had not damaged anything in her face😮‍💨.
It was noted how sniffly she was, but she didn't have the flu. It seems after years of being on the street and probably had had multiple bouts of the flu, she was just going to be a sniffly cat. It doesn't effect her quality of life, we just needed to be careful not to bring in any cats with the flu near her as she may catch it easily.

Once she was home she was placed in our smaller recovery cage. We do this so our cats have enough room to move around but can't do too much so they don't open their wounds after surgery. We tried for 2 weeks to have her warm up to us but she was not having it, growling and hissing any time we moved around her cage. Even liquid treats were refused with a swipe. We were not discouraged though. She at least loved her bed and seemed very happy to snuggle in there.

After her follow up appointment with the vet for vaccine boosters she was moved into the big cage. Even with the extra space she seemed to only want to stay in her bed, it has become the staple of her safe space.

After months of trying to win her over we have started to see little improvements from her. She hisses/growls less, will come to the front of the cage to eat or sniff the other cats that come near (sometimes try a sneaky pap at them) and started using the scratching post we popped in there for her.
Though the biggest milestone has been that she finally let us touch her 😮. Now when I mean touch I mean that literally, she still does not allow pets. She was still very growly and hissy any time we got too close but sometimes you just gotta take the gamble, stick your hand in and risk the scratches.
So I liquid treated up and tried my best. While she still refuses any treat from your hand, liquid or otherwise, I noticed that she was letting me get close without swiping. So with a treat in 1 hand and the other inching closer, I was able to finally touch her with a little stroke of my finger. Even more to my surprise when she did finally swipe at me I came out scratch free. Her swipes where no longer of aggression but more warning paps to her limits. For her this is huge, I'm extremely proud of her and it shows she has promise.

She is going to have an extremely slow process of building up trust after all she's been through, but I understand. All cats move at different paces, but I think she can get there. Even my own cat Callie took 4 years to become the lap cat she now is, so I hold out hope that she can make it there too.

Due to events that will be explained in part 3, Gypsy has had another cage change to make room. The wonderful Kat from 'The Cat Sanctuary' (absolutely visit their webside and show them some love) has lent us a 2 tier cage to bring her into lounge room and have more people exposure. She also graciously helped us with the transfer as I'm currently not fully mobile after knee surgery. Gypsy was a champion about it, growled but did not swipe or struggle as she was scooped up in her bed and moved to her new home.
An attempt was made to give her liquid treats as an apology but in classic Gypsy fashion she refused. Though it was hilarious to see treat smeared on her face as she growled, only to get some in her mouth during a hiss and then making numnum growl noises as she licked a little off.

She is still settling into her new space and we hope to continue seeing more small improvements from her.
I will try to keep more updated on her progress, so posts don't stay this long but for those of you who stayed for the whole thing, thank you ❤️

Rescue update 🐈
Part 1 - Gypsy and crew
Ok, this is kinda a long story so its going to be in 3 parts due to the different stages.

Back in February 2025 we posted about a stray we had been feeding and building trust with for about a year or so, and had gotten her to start eating front of the house and suspected she had had kittens but didn't know where.

We named her Gypsy, and at the end of May 2025 she appeared in front of our house with those kittens, now about 3 months old.
At first we just thought there was 1 but after a couple days we counted 5 in total😵‍💫. At the time we didn't have space and tried to reach out to other bigger rescues for assistance but unfortunately they were too full to take in 5 kittens and a mum (completely understandable).

Tragically, in that time 1 of the kittens was hit by a car, as they would often run across the road very late at night or very early in the AMs.
It was extremely distressing and we decided we could not wait any longer.

Harmonica was still isolated to my office and cage at this point, going through socialisation. We gave her free roam of the house and started to set up the cage and buy supplies for the kittens.

Gypsy's 4 remaining kittens were 1 tuxedo, 1 white and black spotted and 2 black ones.
On the day we were all ready to go, cage set up, traps prepped, vet appointments made and.....no kittens.
Just out of the blue the kittens stopped showing up after a couple weeks of being very regular at the very early hours.

We walked the neighbourhood multiple times looking for signs of them but found nothing. We held out hope that maybe someone else had taken them in, but we could just never know for sure. While disheartening we still had work to do, as we needed to get Gypsy off the street and desexed before she could have another litter.

By mid July we decided we couldn't wait any more and made plans to trap Gypsy. This will be our part 2 and part 3...well let's just say this isn't last you'll hear about her kittens.

Rescue work can be unpredictable and cats won't always work to your schedule. They care not for your plans and prepations, but the work is never done and we will continue to do what we can for those that come our way ❤️

Meet our lovely Harmonica 🐈‍⬛

Harmonica is the last kitten of our first Revesby rescue. Originally called Aramis as 1 of the 3 musketeers but name was changed to Harmonica due to her musical calls during food time.

Now Harmonica has not been put up for adoption on pet rescue as of yet but she is up for adoption or fostering.

The delay is due to the fact that she has had an affection regression (though never showed any signs of aggression). While she was in the rescue cage we slowly were able to move to a petting stage and then she was given access to the full room, but not the house like her sibling Athos. While in the room she continued to like pets and even came up for them and we thought 'yes she's ready'. Unfortunately as soon as she was allowed to roam the whole house that went out the window.

While she is still extremely playful and loves coming up for treats, she no longer wants to be touched which is was a bit disappointing but each cat has their own personality.
She loves snoozing on the bed, work chair or cuddling with Kissy. Kissy seems to be her favourite cat companion and you can find them snoozing together in various spots in the house or just in the same room. Her love for her foster mum seems to be much greater then her love for her sister.

While it is not required to adopt Kissy and Harmonica together, I do think they would thrive more if they stayed as a pair. Kissy seems to bring out the best in Harmonica and they really love chasing each other around, Kissy always knows just how rough she can play with her and how not to take it too far. They also eat all their meals next to each other without stealing each other's food.

I think Harmonica is a bit overwhelmed with the amount of cats she has to share a space with and I think a home with just her and Kissy would probably bring out that affectionate nature she had when it was just her or her and Kissy in a room.

If your someone who is wanting a cat but worried that being out of the house all day for work and leaving them lonely, then this is your pair. They are extremely low maintenance and will happily entertain themselves.

While Harmonica is very playful she does not require constant attention. She does love a play session and will go crazy for a wand toy, but is also just as happy to play with it with out you, dragging it around the house with chirps of triumph at her capture.

Even if she is adopted alone, I think she will do just fine. She may never be a lap cat but she may be able to work back up to being petted in the right environment. She doesn't mind hanging around your space and is happy to lay on the bed with you. She also loves watching TV and will happily watch it with you (her favourites are cat TV and cartoons).

One of our favourite sights is hearing her doing her 'I caught a prize' chirps somewhere in the house and seeing her with the wand toy or pom pom (her other favourite toy) in her mouth just strutting by.

Our current rescues Kissy and Athos(aka dumpling or little potato) are still waiting on their forever homes.

It is a little disheartening that they have not had much interest but I can understand when you look for a cat to adopt and are told they don't like being picked up and cuddled. But these girls are still very loving and continue to make strides in becoming loving pets.

Kissy has found more bravery over the last few months. She now ventures from her hiding spots to explore more and has even been caught braving the bed. She still loves spending her time snoozing in a quite spot, but now loves to sleep under the bed instead of the under rescue cage. She is still an absolute sweetie at feeding times, politely waiting for her pats and cheek scratches before going to eat her food.
She even comes out for affection with no food in sight and quietly beeps requests for cheek scratches before trotting back to nap under the bed. Her most active time is night time, where you will hear her enthuastically papping around pom pom balls or toy mice, giving us a glimpse at her kitten like nature. Though she still prefer to play by herself, she will have intense chasing games with the other rescue kittens.

Athos has made massive strides. While still not liking to be picked up she absolutely LOVES pats. She is constantly coming into what ever room you are in and chirps for affection. While she can be coy about it, playing the game of 'i want attention, no wait don't touch me yet' once she gets up her courage she will revel in the pats and neck scratches.
Each month getting braver and now will jump on the bed or the chair next to you for affection.
While she's not a lap cat yet, she is showing promise and has walked across a lap a few times or just placed her paw there while getting pets. I know with the right kind of home she will really open up and make those last few steps to lap cat.
She loves being in whatever room you are in and flopping down near you. With her love for food still strong she has garnered the nick names dumpling and little potato, dumpling seeming to be her favourite and she has started to respond to it 😆
She will also happily sleep in the cat towers near the bed just to close to you and potentially get more of those pats.

We still hold out hope that these girls will find loving homes that will help them fully come into their own. These girls are also available for fostering or fostering to adopt. You can find their profiles on Petrescue.com.

Hi All, I know there hasn't been any new posts on this page for awhile. Though rescue work has been going on, and I will start updating on this again.
Due to some medical news, work and medical procedures I have been over whelmed and was not interacting with social media. BUT I'm near the end of my recovery and feeling recharged, just in time for a whole new rescue project 😣. Which is stressful but i will be getting help on this as I'm currently not fully mobile. Before I do any updates on that though I will be posting on the stuff that was happening last year and updates on the current rescues in our care.
Thank you to those that still check this page and support us. I'm also hoping to get more of the business side of this sorted with some assistance from other rescues, because as much as I know about cats I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to the other side of running a rescue.
I hope the new year is treating you all well and keep your eyes out for more regular updates here ❤️

🐈‍⬛ kitten for adoption 🐈‍⬛

Meet Athos, one of our 3 musketeers from the Revesby colony rescue.

Athos is just over a year old now, female, desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.

She was born in the colony and was taken in by our rescue last year. When we first took her in she was sick with the flu and we were very worried about her 😥, but after some antibiotics and care she bounced back quickly and showed us how much s***k she had.

She was the most standoffish of her litter mates to start with but always had that boundless kitten energy and loved to play with the feather wand. It took us quite awhile to earn her trust but once she finally let us show her affection she has never looked back.

While she is still a bit shy around people, as soon as that toy comes out all is forgotten and it's play time! Dangle toys and lasers being her favourites. She loves to explore the room, climb the cat towers and play in tote bags.

She is also extremely fascinated by the TV and loves to watch it with you. Whether your watching a show or gaming, she is intrigued and will sometime hop up to follow the things on screen. Cat TV is a winner for this one 😸

While she doesn't like to be picked up she does love a good pat session. She will let you pat her for hours, taking a break and wandering away when she gets over stimulated but will come back soon after for more. She's also shown potential in becoming a lap cat. She has crawled onto my lap or tried to crawl under my oodie on a few occasions. While she is still cautious about this, I think with the right person and some patience she can get there 😺
