What an enjoyable meeting we had this week.
Guest, Heidi was our General Evaluator and gave us some valuable feedback with lots of compliments. Scott , our newest member, had us in stitches laughing at his energetic Table Topic. We recognised both of them at the end of the meeting as our most inspirational speaker and our Wise Owl for the best evaluation.
Monica challenged a few of us with her very creative Table Topics.

(I saw this quote on another club's page and thought it was worth copying. Thanks Western Suburbs Toastmasters. )

"Confidence isn't about fitting into a mould, it's about expressing who you are. Every speech makes us all a littile braver."

Effective communication is about showing up authentically and embracing your personal story rather than trying to look or sound like everyone else.
Toastmasters gives us all an opportunity to grow and shine.

Sunday for Convention saw more guest speakers, break out sesions, the Evaluation Contest and Humourous contest.

As the day and Conference drew to a close, we did manage to get a photo of all the members present who were from Moreton Division before the day drew to a close.

Convention on Saturday was full on with speech contests Table Topics and International. Heidi from Bracken Ridge Club won the Table Topics Contest and was placed 2nd in the International and Evaluation representing Moreton Division - what a wonderful achievement.

Home for a quick change and off the the Saturday night Gala Dinner with a theme of Red, White and Sparkling. What a wonderful way to complete a huge day.

Convention is also about networking, that starts when planning for things like 'where will we stay'? This year Barb and I shared with two other ladies Lucy and Heidi at an air b&b in Glen Aplin. Wow what a delight, we arrived late Friday afternoon to find the fire alight, fresh milk from the hosts's cows, fig jam and local honey right there in a huge home. Then Heidi produces home made sourdough bread... how much better can it get.

Then we set off, it was full moon for the festive meet and greet, to catch up with old friends and meeting new ones.

It was a wonderful beginning to the weekend - and we did. I attended my first District Convention in 1981 and have not missed many.

You may wonder what is a Toastmaster Convention?

In the words of our District Director Nicky, people walk into our meetings nervous and walk out with confidence. Rock Soliod Growth ( Convention theme) comes from courage, consistence and the decision to show up agin and again and again.

A Convention weekend thrives on that energy while bringing our community together. The converations, the speeches, the laughter and the breakthroughs. It is where connections are made, ideas take shape and something shifts.

Whether you compete, learn, support or just soak it all in, our memebers here matter. Every word spoken and every moment shared adds to something bigger than any one of us.

And here we are at the amazing venue in Stanthorpe, in the heart of wine country, Barb and Di stopped at the banner and then the conference happens.

Maybe next year you will join us, it will be in Brisbane.

We leave inspired

At the recent Convention in Stanthorpe we had our International Director Monique Tonna DTM run a session on maintaining membership. The image is her slide of the 'Benefits of Staying in Toastmasters'. I think shse expresses it well.

Without members we have no club, our memebsr are our asset and the member experience within a club is its assets.

Do take a moment to read the slide and see how you feel.

Our District Convention in Stanthorpe last weeknd was amazing. Barbara and I were present. I will be posrting snippets over the next week or so - this one struck a memory for me.
During our International Director Monique Tonna DTM during her address around maintaining membership in the organisation referred to this quote.

Helen Blanchard was the 1st female International President of Toastmasters in 1985/86 (seeing we started in 1925, so it took a while). It was the also the year that I was District Governor the first time.

Her quote 'if you get out of Toastmasters all that there is to get out of Toastmasters, you'll never get out of Toastmasters'.
In other words, the more you out in the more you get out, and in the second photo Helen shaking my hand after presenting me with the President Distinguished Award, one of the top 6 Districts world-wide. That does not mean an individual award, it is a District Award which was the result of amazing teamwork at time of incredible growth in our District.

Two photos, so many memories as I reflect on my 49 years in the organisation.
