An entire childhood in the shadow of war.

18-year-old Vika has spent most of her life growing up with sirens, fear, and uncertainty. When the conflict escalated four years ago, her family was forced to leave their hometown and move to Kyiv. Now, even Kyiv bears the scars of bombardments.

Despite the devastation, UNICEF continues to stay for children and families affected by the conflict, delivering school supplies, providing shelters, and psychosocial support. Vika holds onto hope that one day, she and every child in Ukraine will live in peace and safety, without the threat of war.

A smile against all odds 💙

Haneen, 8, is one of more than 280,000 people who have fled from Lebanon into Syria as violence and uncertainty put children’s lives at risk. But for Haneen, there is still something to look forward to – a colouring book in her new mine risk education kit.

UNICEF is providing thousands of children with the essentials as they escape from conflict, including child protection interventions like this kit. With explosive remnants of war putting children’s lives at risk, UNICEF is teaching children how to identify dangerous items and what to do if they encounter them.

As families begin to build their new lives in Syria and hope for a safer future, UNICEF will keep supporting them in every way we can.

Every child has the right to play – not just for fun, but because play is how children learn, connect and grow.

But for millions of children living through conflict, displacement, and instability, that right can feel out of reach.

This , we’re standing for every child’s right to a childhood. Because play matters, today and every day.

Deadly violence continues to claim children's lives across Gaza and the West Bank.

We cannot let this become the new normal – children losing their lives to violence should cause global outrage and must be condemned at every level.

UNICEF calls on the Israeli authorities to take decisive action to protect all Palestinian children. Authorities must ensure transparent, credible, and robust investigations, as well as accountability whenever children are killed or maimed. International human rights law and international humanitarian law must be upheld, and every child’s inherent right to life must be protected.

Since the conflict in Sudan escalated in April 2023, children have been suffering from what no child should have to experience – trauma, displacement, disease outbreaks, and violence.

Despite three years of unrest and uncertainty, our teams remain on the ground, scaling up our work as needed. UNICEF continues to deliver lifesaving supplies and services in conflict hotspots, supporting communities with vaccination campaigns, malnutrition screenings, temporary learning spaces, and more.

“Putting others’ needs before one’s own is one of the scouts’ principles, which I proudly embrace.”

When an intense tropical cyclone made devastating landfall in Madagascar in early 2026, Sephaline immediately stepped up alongside her fellow scouts.

Supported by UNICEF, Sephaline and other young people on the island nation are helping with the recovery efforts, like cleaning debris in schools to create safe spaces for children.

In emergencies, UNICEF works alongside young people, communities and local partners – because when children are safe and supported, they can do extraordinary things.

Ahmad should be playing at home or in the park. Instead, he and his three-year-old brother are both in hospital after being injured by an airstrike that hit a neighbouring home in southern Lebanon.

Hundreds of children just like Ahmad have been injured since hostilities surged in March. Children are bearing the brunt of the violence, with more than 370,000 children forced out of their homes.

UNICEF is providing safe spaces and delivering the essentials for families, but no child should grow up in war. Children in Lebanon deserve to grow up safe, healthy, and protected.

Around the world, children and young people are taking climate action and on World Environment Day, we’re celebrating them!

Like 11-year-old Halimatou in Mali, who along with her classmates, have turned a scorching courtyard into a green garden, bringing shade, learning and inspiration to her school and community.

When children are supported with the skills they need to drive change, caring for the environment turns into real action.

“I am proud to be a girl from Gaza.”

12-year-old Fatima moves through her day in a city she barely recognises. She’s learning in tents and worries about meals.

She also decorates the walls of whatever shelter she's in – because she has decided, no matter what, to be happy. She wants to be a doctor.

Fatima deserves to grow up in safety and with a future. Every child in Gaza does.

Every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and celebrated, no matter who they are or who they love. That’s why we stand with LGBTQIA+ young people.

We want every child and young person to have equal rights and the space to be proud of who they are. Together, let’s celebrate your strength, your joy, and everything that makes you unique. You deserve to be heard, to be loved, and to grow up in a world that embraces you exactly as you are.

Happy Pride. We see you. We celebrate you. We’re with you.
