Absolutely loved spending time out in the field with trekking to isolated waterholes and collecting eDNA samples for biodiversity surveys across the property.

Using environmental DNA (eDNA), we’re hoping to detect a whole range of species that call this place home, including critically important and threatened fish, reptiles and mammals. This eDNA survey will also help build crucial baseline data for the many other taxa that slip under the radar.

It’s always a privilege to combine science with time on Country, and even better to share it with someone so connected to wildlife, who captures their beauty, their character and the landscapes they depend upon so brilliantly.

🐸 New research on the Booroolong Frog! 🧬

We’re excited to share that NatureDNA has just collaborated to release new genomic data for the Booroolong Frog, one of NSW’s threatened amphibians.

This study provides important insights into the species’ distribution — helping conservationists make more informed decisions about habitat protection and translocation efforts.

Exciting news for frog conservation in NSW! 🐸🧬

Earlier this month, we publicly released genetic reference data for over 30 threatened frog species across NSW.

This new resource:
✅ Provides critical DNA sequence data to help accurately identify species
✅ Enhances our ability to differentiate between species with confidence
✅ Supports eDNA surveys, allowing us to detect multiple species from a single water sample

By making this data publicly available, we’re helping scientists, conservationists, and land managers work together to improve conservation outcomes for these threatened frogs.

Access the data, use it, and join us in protecting our unique amphibian biodiversity! 🌏💧

This work was supported by NSW DCCEEW with funding provided to the University of Canberra

🌿 World Ranger Day | July 31 🌿

Today, on World Ranger Day, we honour the incredible dedication, courage and resilience of rangers across the globe — and right here in Australia.

Rangers are on the front lines of conservation. Whether managing national parks, monitoring threatened species, combating poaching, or drawing on Traditional Owner knowledge to care for Country, their work is vital to protecting biodiversity and cultural heritage.

At NatureDNA, we’re proud to collaborate with rangers who are using environmental DNA (eDNA) to track species, monitor ecosystems, and gather powerful data for better decision-making. Their deep local knowledge, on-ground expertise, and tireless efforts are central to translating science into real-world conservation outcomes.

💚 To all rangers: Thank you. Your work matters.

🌍 ICCB 2025 Presentation 🧬

This week, our Director Elise Furlan presented at the International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB).

Her talk, “Harnessing Environmental DNA for Conservation: From Innovation to Application,” showcased how eDNA is transforming the way we detect and monitor species—making biodiversity surveys more efficient, non-invasive, and scalable.

Elise shared real-world case studies where her eDNA research has turned scientific innovation into applied conservation outcomes.

Elise attended ICCB 2025 in her capacity as an ARC DECRA fellow at the University of Canberra, who generously supported her travel and attendance.

It’s exciting to be part of a global community driving meaningful change for nature, and we’re proud to help bring these tools into everyday conservation practice.
