Pilbara Meta Maya Regional Aboriginal Corporation was proud to be on Kariyarra Country for the 11th Annual Yule River Bush Meeting.

The gathering brought together Aboriginal voices from across the Pilbara to discuss key challenges, opportunities, and community-led solutions for the future. We were honoured to be part of these important conversations and grateful to Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) for the opportunity.

We also shared the impact of our Trachoma Trailer program, which delivers practical health and hygiene services across the Pilbara and has helped some communities eliminate trachoma.

The PMMRAC team enjoyed the event, strengthening relationships with community members and valued partners like Horizon Power. We will continue to work alongside communities to support strong, healthy futures.

Today, we celebrate the strength, culture, and identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

This year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme, “Living Our Truth,” recognises the importance of children growing up connected to community, culture, and the stories that shape who they are.

At PMMRAC, we recognise the wisdom of Elders, celebrate the resilience of families, and support future generations to walk proudly in their identity, culture, and truth.

Pilbara Meta Maya was proud to support the Next Gen Festival in Newman for NAIDOC 2026, presented by the Newman Women’s Shelter and supported by our PMM Community Grants Program.

The five-day NAIDOC Week youth celebration brought young people from Newman and Jigalong together for creative workshops and empowerment sessions with musician and rapper Barkaa. As part of the workshops, participants wrote and produced the song “All My Mob Are With Me”, and created a full-length music video for the song that was debuted at the Next Gen Festival. The program fostered a vibrant atmosphere and a strong sense of community.

PMM is honoured to support this incredible week long event.

A huge thank you to the Newman Women's Shelter - NWS , BARKAA, Dallas Woods and the Grandtrine Creative team for their outstanding work putting the project together. At Pilbara Meta Maya Regional Aboriginal Corporation, we are proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 and mark an amazing milestone of 50 years of honouring and recognising the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

PMMRAC will be attending multiple community events throughout the week to mark the special occasion. You can find us at the IBN Group NAIDOC Festival in Port Hedland and at the Next Gen NAIDOC Festival in Newman.

This week, Pilbara Meta Maya Regional Aboriginal Corporation was proud to receive the keys to the Trachoma Trailer, marking the official handover of this important asset from Curtin University to PMM.

Funded through End Trachoma and administered by the Public Health Advocacy Institute at Curtin University, the trailer has been designed to support practical, community-led health and hygiene initiatives across the Pilbara.

For our Environmental Health team, the trailer is more than a mobile laundry unit. Equipped with laundry facilities, a barbecue and a handwashing station, it provides a flexible way to bring services and support directly to communities, strengthening prevention efforts and promoting healthy living in a practical and respectful way.

We were pleased to have Dr Mel Stoneham and Mr Robert McGuirk attend the handover and share their insights into the ongoing role of the Trachoma Trailer in supporting better health outcomes. Their involvement, alongside the contribution of Curtin University, reflects the value of strong partnerships in delivering meaningful outcomes for remote communities.

PMMRAC enjoyed a fabulous evening at the PHCCI Business Excellence Awards, celebrating the incredible businesses and people that make Port Hedland such a special community to be a part of. It was great for some of our staff to swap the work uniforms for something a little more glam!

We were honoured to be nominated for the Hancock Iron Ore Best Community Organisation Award for 2026 and to be recognised alongside so many inspiring local organisations. A huge thank you to all our team members, our partners, industry leaders, regional partners and our community for your ongoing support and belief in the work we do. PMMRAC cannot do this work alone; the greatest impact happens when larger organisations work alongside Aboriginal organisations with respect, shared purpose and a genuine commitment to local outcomes.

We would like to acknowledge fellow nominees Pilbara Kimberley University Centres , the Youth Involvement Council and a big congratulations to the winner, Polly Farmer Foundation. Your work delivering academic enrichment programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students is truly inspiring.

More moments from the Warlawuuru Cup 2026 in Newman. The day was full of energy, with young people, families and community members coming together to celebrate footy, culture and connection. It was especially great to see the kids pointing out their communities and sharing where they’re from. These moments captured the strong sense of pride and belonging that made the event in Newman so special.
