📢 EVENT POSTPONED

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Point Samson Car Boot & Pre-Loved Market, scheduled for Sunday 30 August.

As a volunteer-run community group, a few unexpected issues have arisen that mean we’re unable to go ahead with the event as planned. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and any disappointment this may cause.

❗️Stallholders have been notified by e-mail.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who registered a stall and supported the event. We hope to bring the market back soon and will share details of a new date as soon as we can.

Rio Tinto are about to commence their maintenance dredging campaign across Dampier and Cape Lambert Ports. Rio Tinto will be starting at Dampier this Friday and will be there for ~ 3 days before moving to Cape Lambert for ~ 5 days.

The dredging will be supported by environmental monitoring including:

Satellite imagery to assess the location and extent of visible plumes which is analysed and reported each day
Water quality monitoring of turbidity levels recorded every 30 minutes (given the campaign is less than 7 days then this is not ‘live’ monitoring and will be reviewed after the dredging is completed)
Photo monitoring from Tank Hill and the old jetty 30-60 minutes before high tide each day

Because the campaign at Cape Lambert is less than 7 days, Rio Tinto aren’t undertaking dredging-specific coral reef monitoring but they do have their triennial marine monitoring program scheduled for 2027. The triennial monitoring program focuses on intertidal reefs, giant clams and mangroves as part of our long-term monitoring program.
