People often feel frustrated or sad when there is a gap between the direction they want their life to be taking and the direction their life is taking. For example, if you value helping others but you find yourself being so busy on the farm you are not participating in community events and working bees, you might find this frustrating or upsetting.

One way to reduce this gap is to spend some time working out clearly what really matters to us, where we are putting our attention and energy and what we could be doing to move more in the direction of our values.

Values are statements about how we want to live our lives – what we want to stand for and how we want to behave. They are like guiding principles we can use to motivate and help us make decisions as we move through life.

🐂Check In Tuesday 🌾- Is one for those struggling to get traction in the mud.

Although it was a nice drop last week with rain arriving for many of us and while it brings much needed moisture, it can also brings its own set of challenges with bogged machinery, weeds, fencing repairs, delayed work and unfortunately it can be hard on livestock and these issues can be daunting.

So it’s important to not lose sight of the big picture.
Rain brings hope and sometimes hope is the best vitamin pill a farmer can get and seeing those clouds roll in was a great reminder to us that things can change, not overnight, but they can change.

The same goes for life.

And when you’re doing it tough, choose who you spend your time with wisely. Not everyone is genuinely cheering for you, some people will doubt you, some will criticise you and some may even try to pull you backwards.

Don’t let them.

Keep your circle close to the people who lift you up, tell you the truth, back you when you’re struggling, and celebrate your wins without feeling threatened by them.

Good mates are worth their weight in gold.

And if you’re in a storm right now-whether it’s financial pressure, family challenges, health issues, drought recovery, or simply feeling worn out-remember this:

You’ve survived 100% of your toughest days so far.

Hold your head high, keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep showing up.

The paddocks won’t stay dusty and bare forever.
The storms won’t last forever and neither will the tough seasons of life.

Check in on your mates this week.
A phone call, a visit, a coffee, a quick yarn over the fence- it might be exactly what someone needs.

Because around here in this paddock, we get through the hard times together.

Stay strong, stay focused and don’t make the mountain too hard to climb.

Cheers your mate Katie ❤️xx

The Australian Government has opened a competitive grant opportunity to select providers for the next phase of the Future Drought Fund (FDF) Drought Resilience Hubs program.

Following an independent review and feedback from farmers and regional communities, the program has been refreshed to ensure it is clearly targeted, fit for purpose and well-integrated with other FDF investments.

What has changed in this grant round

Refreshed program design: The program has been updated following an independent review to clarify the role of the hubs and strengthen alignment with broader Future Drought Fund objectives.

National model confirmed: The refreshed program will establish seven Drought Resilience Hubs nationally, providing consistent, place-based coverage across Australia.

Clearer focus on delivery: The hubs will focus on supporting the delivery of practical, place-based support that helps farmers adopt proven drought-resilient practices, rather than duplicating existing research or policy activity.

Long term investment certainty: Up to $86.7 million to 30 June 2032 is available to support delivery of the next phase of the program.

This grant opportunity is open to eligible organisations and consortia with the capability to run regional Drought Resilience Hubs.

Applications open on 29 May 2026 and close at 9:00 pm AEST on 10 August 2026.

For more information on eligibility, assessment and how to apply, visit the Community Grants Hub

Regards
The Future Drought Fund team

The GrantConnect Helpdesk will be closed on Monday 1 June 2026 for the Reconciliation Day public holiday. Queries can still be submitted through the Contact Us form.
