The Shop Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association (SDA) is a trade union representing workers in the retail, fast food and warehouse industries. We fight for better wages and conditions and offer value for money membershi

p. The SDA is an independent not-for-profit organisation funded only by members, for members. The SDA is not a government department, nor is it run by any Company. The SDA is a registered organisation under the Commonwealth Fair Work Act 2009. It is governed by the rules of the Association and our audited accounts are published annually and sent to all members. The Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the SDA are elected by members and assisted by a Committee of Management which is also elected by members. The Union is affiliated to the Australian Council of Trade Unions, the Australian Labor Party, Unions WA and UNI Global Union. The Association is made up of over 20,000 members in Western Australia. Members have the peace of mind that comes with knowing the SDA can protect their rights at work. The SDA offers help to its members at all levels, from the shop floor to the Fair Work Commission and the Federal Court. What does the SDA do? The most important thing that the SDA does for members is negotiate wage increases and improvements in conditions. The SDA also provides members with many services and benefits - and all for less than the cost of a fast food meal each week. Join the SDA. You don’t know when you might need us. We will be there for you one hundred per cent of the time.

Tomorrow:
Workers across the country unite in the annual May Day March and tomorrow, Fremantle comes to life for May Day 2026!

Why we march:
May Day is about standing shoulder to shoulder for workers’ rights, solidarity, and social justice. We march to honour the struggles that won us what we have and to demand more, because wages and working conditions are still no where near what workers deserve.

What to bring:
Bring your family, friends, and kids down to discover a full day of activity before one of Perth’s biggest marches. The SDA table will have everything you need for the march, so be sure to come visit us beforehand. Expect plenty of freebies and competitions (check out our colour in competition, with kids’ and adult prizes available on the day), plus: Community Festival 🥁Free coffee ☕ & ice cream 🍦 Kids’ rides & face painting 🎡 Dog-friendly event 🐕‍🦺

Festive activities kick off from 10am, with the march starting at 12pm.

We can’t wait to get loud with you tomorrow! 📣

BREAKING: SDA has Massive Win for Maccas Members! 🍔🍟🥤

For more than five years, McDonald’s has refused to negotiate with workers or the union about pay and conditions. 👎

We’ve got great news - the SDA is about to start negotiating for improved pay and conditions at Macca’s. 💪

The Fair Work Commission has approved the SDA’s application to negotiate a new Enterprise Agreement for McDonald’s workers. ⚖️

This is a massive win for Macca’s workers and an important step towards negotiating a new McDonald’s Agreement that will cover both corporate and franchisee stores. 🔥

This year’s biggest flex isn’t designer. It’s union.

That’s right, the 2026 SDA May Day tee has officially landed. Rumour has it it’s trending higher than Coachella, viral TikTok dances, and leaving avocado toast in the dust.

Modelled by Liam and Tanya (yes, those trendsetters), it’s already turning heads.

Spotted: Delegates, members, your co-worker who “doesn’t usually wear merch” — all suddenly very interested. Coincidence? Unlikely.

Soft fabric. Sharp design. Strong message. And unlike fast fashion, this one actually stands for something.

Important detail: the only way for members to get one for themselves, friends or family… is to attend May Day 2026.

Get there, get yours, and prepare for at least 3 people to ask, “Where’d you get that?”

From winning the removal of junior rates for adult workers to standing up for young workers across the industry, this is what union action delivers.

From increased fuel prices to surging grocery prices, Australians deserve a pay rise that genuinely helps them get ahead.

Without unions fighting for fair pay increases in the Annual Wage Review, millions of workers wouldn’t have a voice in this important decision.

In uncertain times, unions will always put you first.

As Anzac Day falls on a Saturday this year, the following Monday is also a public holiday.

Retail, warehouse and fast food workers deserve time off too!
