50th Anniversary celebration 🙌
of Te Reo Māori language week.

Now is the time to learn and the only reason why we have created our first Tamariko Te Reo Māori Busy Book for the language our Māori culture.

This space will be shared with other International Cultural and linguistic diverse languages through Kids Busy Books 📚 and hands on experience for the whole family.

A Beautiful celebration of language and culture

Hurō 🥳 This year, Aotearoa will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, one of the nation’s most celebrated public events.

Born of activism, Te Wiki began as a single Māori Language Day in 1972. The idea of expanding to a full week was seeded in 1974, and by 1975, Te Wiki had found its footing 🌱 This year we ask New Zealanders not just to celebrate, but to recommit. Make te reo Māori a part of your daily life. In your home, your school, your workplace. Every word counts.

This year, Te Wiki takes place from 14–20 September 2025, and there is something on offer for everyone, including:
🏆 50 Wero Reo Māori – Challenge yourself and give our list of 50 reo challenges a go!
⏳ Pūtahi Mahara – Be part of history by contributing to our reo Māori digital time capsule!
🌀 Heia tō ihi, heitiki! – Wear and share the heitiki with pride on social media.
🛍️ New merch drop coming - In partnership with The Warehouse, our next drop of Kia Kaha te Reo Māori kākahu and merch will be ready for Te Wiki!

🌿 Welcome to Āio Collective 🌿

Kia ora! I’m Ashlee Tamara, a proud Māori wahine from Tauranga, now living in WA. I founded Mindful Moko Playgroup in 2018, where I met Lydia Wong — born and raised in Singapore, now also calling Australia home.

Lydia joined Mindful Moko with her beautiful daughter Frankie, who was just 8 months old — and that’s how our friendship began.

We bonded over culture, connection, and shared loss. Lydia’s mum passed away in 2018, and I lost my brother Dion in 2023. Dion was a talented artist, and I wanted to honour him by bringing his art to life.

Lydia had always dreamed of creating meaningful digital prints but didn’t know when it would happen. So that one fine evening from Queensland to Perth, we joined forces to create something purposeful — and that’s when we Birth Āio Collective.

Āio Collective Store is a space for upcoming creations celebrating cultural and linguistic diversity from all backgrounds. Your support would be amazing — it helps us produce more items, with all proceeds going back into Mindful Moko Playgroup to nurture community and whānau.

Āio means peace, calm, harmony — the heart of our kaupapa. We’re so grateful to share this journey with you. 💛
