We are seeking expressions of interest from parents and youths to participate in a two-hour online workshop to better understand the experiences of Western Australian students with learning differences.

Your insights will guide the development of a statewide survey that will be launched in 2026.

What participation involves:

You will be invited to join one two-hour online workshop focused on shaping the design, content and priorities of the statewide survey.

To ensure everyone feels safe and able to share openly, workshops will be held separately for:

1️⃣ young people aged 15 to 24 years who can speak to their current or recent experiences in Western Australian schools;

2️⃣ parents and caregivers of children with learning differences.

No formal diagnosis is needed to take part.

This project is inclusive of students with experience in any education setting in WA: public schools, independent and Catholic schools, distance education, home education or unschooling families.

Your voice can help highlight what is working and what needs to change.

Submit an expression of interest today: https://redcap.link/ImpactforLearningDifferences

More than 1,000 backpacks currently line the stairs of Parliament House. 🎒
Each one shares a story of exclusion and inequity within our current education system model. 💔
These stories have been bravely shared by students, teachers and families who have had their mental health impacted by an inflexible education system that is no longer fit for purpose.
The time for reform is now.
We know better, we should do better!

Today is the day!!! 🎒🎒🎒
We will be putting kids, familes and teachers' voices on the steps of parliament in a big, loud hopefully impossible to ignore call for change towards a more inclusive, accessible and equitable education system for every child in WA.

Stay tuned!

Congratulations Jack !!!

Congratulations to CliniKids researcher Dr Jack Brett who was named the winner of the 2024 Australian Rotary Health Western Australian Mental Health PhD Award recently.

The award recognises researchers from universities in WA who have completed an excellent PhD thesis in the mental health field.

Jack’s thesis explored empathy in autistic and non-autistic people, culminating in the development of a new empathy measurement tool and greater understanding of empathy in autism.

Earlier this year, Jack was the recipient of a $25,000 Illuminate Award at The Kids Research Institute Australia, supported by the AOJ Woods Foundation, to conduct research into how to best support children struggling with emotional dysfunction, particularly those with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD and autism.

Keep up the great work Jack!

So excited to see this come to life!
10,000 inclusive educators across Australia and counting!!! Loren Swancutt Inclusive Educators Australia All Means All - The Australian Alliance for Inclusive Education 👏

Thank you to the AOJ Woods Foundation 👏

We’re pleased to acknowledge the AOJ Woods as a partner in bringing our new IEA-Community to life. Their support has helped us establish a dedicated platform where inclusive educators across Australia can connect, collaborate, access resources, and engage in professional learning in a central hub.

The IEA-Community is designed to work alongside our vibrant Facebook network, which will continue to host fast-moving discussions, news, and sharing. Together, these platforms give inclusive educators both a dynamic space for immediate connection and a structured community hub for deeper collaboration and sustained engagement.

We’re looking forward to launching the IEA-Community on October 1st.

On behalf of the IEA team, and everyone who will benefit from this space, thank you AOJ Woods Foundation for believing in the power of a connected, informed community of inclusive educators.

Transforming education together.

Calling parents of children with Specific Learning Disorders - dyslexia, dysphagia, dyscalculia!!!

Let's get the data we need to fight for the supports necessary for our kids to thrive 💓🧠

Researchers at The Kids Research Institute Australia The University of Western Australia would like to hear from families about their experiences obtaining a specific learning disorder (SLD) .

They are doing the research to find out what the experience of accessing a diagnosis — such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia — was like for parents and young people, and also to gather their ideas for support.

The study involves an online interview up to one hour long. Researchers want to hear from:

✨ Parents of a child aged 6-18 with a SLD diagnosis
✨ Adolescents aged 12-18 with a SLD diagnosis
