The great Quenda count is on again.
Why your help is needed this October
Our native quendas are tireless "urban ecosystem engineers," but they face ongoing pressure from urban sprawl, vehicle strikes, and introduced predators. While population numbers in strongholds like the Perth Hills have remained relatively stable over time, participant numbers have dipped in recent years. We need you back on the team this October to ensure we don't miss any critical shifts in their populations.
What’s new for the 2026 Quenda Count:
• A Dedicated Hub: We have launched a brand-new Quenda Count Homepage packed with FAQs, quick instructions, printable survey sheets, and handy Quenda Q&As.
• Go Paperless: Submitting your observations is easier than ever. You can now use a quick, mobile-friendly online survey form. Simply scan the QR code on our website with your phone while out in the garden or on a bushwalk to log your sightings instantly.
How to take part this month:
1. Pick a week in October and choose a site where you’ve seen quendas before.
2. Spend some time looking out for them—whether you're enjoying a morning cuppa on the verandah, doing some gardening, or out on a regular walk.
3. Log the date, the number of minutes you watched, and how many quendas you spotted. (Remember: recording a zero count is just as vital for our data!)
