What a fantastic professional development from our committee. The PL from Janet Schneider about continuous assessment sparked great discussion about how we assess in low -risk environments and retain numbers of students selecting languages. Primary and Secondary teachers broke off into groups and began their planning for the implementation of the nee adopted and adapted WA curriculum for Indonesian language in 2027. The sessions were productive and allowed for more meaniful planning within subschools. Thank you again to Tranby College members Ibu Dian and Ibu Indah for hosting WILTA’s Term 3 PL 🇮🇩🙏🏼

WILTA Workshops TODAY at Tranby College. Many thanks to Ibu Indah dan Ibu Dian for welcoming us to their gorgeous school. We started with practical inspiration from Janet Schneider (AFMLTA executive) and now it's all collaboration in planning for curriculum change in 2027.

Last night the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia held the 4th Annual Bahasa Indonesia Student Awards at the Duxton Hotel in Perth. Students from 52 students from 36 schools around our state were recognised for their dedication to learning Bahasa Indonesia. Such a fantasic event.

We heard inspiring words of wisdom from Pak Irvan Buchari Consul-General, Melissa Goh - Deputy Director of DFAT WA, Liam Prince - Consortium Director of ACICIS, Brendon Cook - President of the Westralian Indonesian Language Teachers’ Association (WILTA), Robbie Gaspar - Chair of Indonesia Institute and Pak Dwi Prasetyo Suneno - Chair of Stanmore Resources Ltd Board.

Atas nama WILTA, kami ingin ucapkan banyak terima kasih kepada Bapak Irvan Buchari atas acara ini karena kita semua bisa merayakan prestasinya murid-murid kita dan terus mempromosikan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di Australia Barat 🙏🏼 Congratulations to all of the students yang mendapat penghargaan tadi malam! 🇮🇩❤️

Pengumuman WILTA - The idea of establishing a national body for Indonesian language educators has been discussed for many years, with even a resolution passed at the 2010 ASILE Conference in Canberra to begin the process of investigating this. Since then, several groups have explored ways to progress this vision. While it has not yet been realised, a small volunteer group is now exploring whether the time is right to bring this vision to life.

The proposed national body would not replace or direct existing State and Territory associations. It would strengthen advocacy, connection and support for Indonesian language learning and teaching across Australia.

We invite you and all Indonesian language educators and supporters to complete the short survey below. Your feedback will help shape the direction of this initiative.

We are a small group of educators from across Australia who’ve been working to establish a volunteer national body that represents ALL teachers of Indonesian language in Australia (school F-12, university, TAFE, adult/community). This body would be a voice for us all: to advocate at the highest le...

Belajar di Nusantara -One of WILTA’s goals this year was to change the way we do Professional Development. As Indonesian teachers across the country look to their associations for strength to navigate the current challenges, it is important that association leaders bring inspiration and remind teachers of their WHY while also providing opportunities to upskill what essentially is their ‘bread and butter’, and that is Bahasa Indonesia!

Our PD participants came to Indonesia for 15 hours of intensive language classes and an immersive language and cultural experience in an orphanage in West Bali. Both Primary and Secondary teachers with a range of Indonesian language skills came together and were challenged and upgraded their knowledge, but more importantly they were reminded of why they love Indonesia and its people. They fell in love all over again with the people and the language.

Our final day was spent at a local primary school where we taught some English, soent time with the kids and made even more friendships with the staff and both SD Maranatha and Widha Asih Melaya and Blimbingsari. Our members are already asking about the next year’s in-country PD and have said that is was “better than any ‘regular’ PD sitting in a room and listening to a guest speaker.”

Belajar di Nusantara PD has been a great success and we look forward to providing this opportunity to our members again in 2027.

Such an amazing start to our immersive language and cultural experience in Widhya Asih Melaya, West Bali for our final part of the Belajar di Nusantara WILTA tour. Not sure there was a drop of English spoken today! The children and staff have been so welcoming and friendly, and after a busy day today we ate together at Ayam Betutu Gilimanuk. Let’s just say the food was PEDAS tapi enak baaaanget 🤩 Looking forward to our final full day at Widhya Asih tomorrow where we will visit the primary school in Blimbingsari.
