💙 National Volunteer Week 💙
This week we celebrate and thank the incredible volunteers who help make The Spiers Centre such a welcoming and supportive place for our community.
National Volunteer Week is about recognising the amazing people who generously give their time, skills, kindness, and compassion to support others and strengthen community connections. Volunteers truly are the heart of community organisations.
While we have highlighted just three of our beautiful volunteers in this post, we are so fortunate to have many more wonderful volunteers supporting our centre in so many different ways every single week. From reception support, food sorting, program assistance, community events, social groups, and behind-the-scenes tasks, every contribution makes a difference.
Our volunteers help create a safe, welcoming, and caring environment for local families and community members, and we simply could not do the work we do without their ongoing support, dedication, and generosity.
To each and every one of our volunteers — thank you. Your kindness, care, and commitment do not go unnoticed, and our community is stronger because of you 💚

A wonderful example of community supporting community.
Today we were incredibly grateful to receive a generous food donation from the team at Silverchain, who recognise both the growing level of hardship being experienced across our community and the important role that The Spiers Centre continues to play in providing practical support, connection, and care to people doing it tough.
What made today even more special was the personal connection behind it. Amanda from Silverchain, who coordinated the food drive, previously worked alongside TSC CEO Neil — making this a lovely reminder that strong relationships and shared values continue to create positive impact long after people move on to new roles.
As cost-of-living pressures continue to affect many individuals and families, donations like these make a real and immediate difference to people accessing support through our Centre.
Thank you Amanda and the entire Silverchain team for your kindness, generosity, and belief in community.

Today we take a moment to reflect and honour the service and sacrifice of Australians and New Zealanders who have served our country.
ANZAC Day reminds us of the importance of community, connection, and looking out for one another—values that remain just as important today.
We acknowledge all who have served, and the families who support them, with gratitude and respect.
Lest we forget. 🌺

A big thank you to RAAFA Merriwa Bowling Club for inviting The Spiers Centre to be part of their Open Day Barefoot Bowls & BBQ on Sunday 19 April
We had a fantastic time connecting with such a welcoming group and experiencing firsthand the great sense of community that exists within the club.
We are incredibly grateful for their fundraising efforts and the generous donation to The Spiers Centre. Support like this truly makes a difference. As we shared on the day, we firmly believe in community supporting community and it is the support of local groups like this that enables us to continue supporting people doing it tough across our community.
And if you’ve never tried bowls… give it a go! It’s great fun, surprisingly addictive, and a brilliant way to connect with others. We’d encourage anyone interested to reach out to RAAFA Merriwa Bowling Club and get involved.
Thank you again for your generosity, hospitality, and community spirit

Community supporting community means looking out for one another.
A conversation, a check-in, helping hand.
Small actions can create big change.

We need a little help to unlock something big for our community
At The Spiers Centre, we’ve recently taken delivery of a purpose-built sea container that will become the new home of our Community Closet — a free clothing service for people doing it tough.
Right now, the service runs once a week on Wednesday mornings.
But with this new space, we have the opportunity to open more often and support even more people in our community.
There’s just one thing we need first…
We’re looking for a business, organisation or team who can help us fit out the container and bring it to life. This includes:
• Shelving
• Storage solutions
• A practical layout to maximise the space
We already have some clothing racks — we just need help turning the space into something functional, welcoming, and ready to serve those who need it most.
Our goal?
To have it up and running before winter, so more people can access warm clothing when they need it most.
This is a great opportunity to:
✔ Make a real, tangible difference locally
✔ Use your skills in a meaningful, hands-on way
✔ Be part of something that directly supports people in need
At The Spiers Centre, we believe in Community Supporting Community and this is exactly what that looks like in action.
If you or your organisation can help, or if you know someone who can, we’d love to hear from you.
