We are committed to building a strong, caring and resilient communities and making a positive difference through supporting and empowering individuals by relieving poverty, misfortune and distress. The Spiers Centre provides services with a focus on financial hardship, community support, soc

ial inclusion and early intervention. We work with children, families, young people and the community from our Neighborhood Centre and offices in the northern suburbs. We provide an integrated hub of service delivery enabling clients to access support, obtain information and receive referrals to other agencies that individuals and families can access to enhance their resilience and well-being. The focus on developing knowledge, confidence and resilience supports the Centre’s mission to provide a centre for support, information and empowerment of individuals, families and communities.

WE WON!

We are delighted to share that The Spiers Centre was named Best Not for Profit at the 2026 Joondalup Business Awards on Saturday night.
It's a wonderful recognition of our staff, volunteers, supporters and the community that has stood alongside The Spiers Centre for 46 years.
At the awards, we spoke about the simple philosophy behind what we do:

💙 Community supporting Community.

For 46 years, we have supported people in our local community through some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

But we couldn't do it without you. Our community support comes in so many forms, from someone dropping off a bag of groceries, toiletries, nappies or pet food, to businesses donating goods, sharing their expertise, volunteering, collaborating on a project or partnering with us.

We think of it as an infinity loop:

The community supports us → we support people in our community → together we build a stronger community.

And right now, that matters more than ever.

With cost-of-living pressures affecting so many households, the person who needs our help today could be your neighbour, your customer, your colleague or someone in your workforce.

That's why we'd love more local businesses to become part of our community.

Homelessness doesn't begin when someone loses their home.

By the time someone is sleeping in their car, couch surfing, or facing eviction, they've often been carrying the weight of financial stress, housing pressure, relationship breakdown, illness or unexpected life events for months, sometimes years.

This Homelessness Week (3-9 August), the national theme is Homelessness Action Now.

For us, action begins earlier.
Over the past 12 months, The Spiers Centre has seen a 60% increase in the number of people presenting to our Heathridge Centre whilst experiencing homelessness. Those numbers remind us why early intervention matters more than ever.

Last Homelessness Week, we launched It Starts with Hello www.itstartswithhello.com.au

Not just as a homelessness campaign, but as a commitment to making it easier for people to ask for help before hardship becomes catastrophe.

We know that asking for help isn't always easy. Pride, fear, embarrassment, uncertainty or simply not knowing where to start can keep people struggling long after support could have made a difference.

We believe help begins the moment someone decides to reach out...
..and we answer the phone with "Hello."

Today, we're proud to launch the next stage of It Starts with Hello.
Our upgraded website now includes:
💙 A new Help Hub, with practical guidance for Early Intervention, Urgent Help, and ways our community can make a difference.
💙 A free 7-day email series, designed to gently guide people through those first overwhelming days, helping reduce panic, create clarity, and take one step at a time.
💙 Clear pathways to practical support, because the earlier someone reaches out, the more opportunities there are to prevent hardship becoming crisis.

Homelessness Action Now isn't only about responding when people lose their home, it's about helping people before they do. It starts with Hello.

👕💙 The Spiers Centre Community Closet – now also open on TUESDAYS! 💙👕
We are excited to share this video created by Sitevisuals, showcasing the installation and official opening of our Community Closet and we are also excited to share that we now have more volunteers so we are open every Tuesday morning as well as the usual Wednesday mornings.
The Community Closet provides free, good-quality clothing to support individuals and families in our community. This initiative was created to help reduce barriers, provide practical support, and ensure community members have access to essential items in a welcoming and respectful environment.
A special thank you to everyone who helped bring this initiative to life and supported the launch of this valuable community resource.
The Community Closet is now open:

A huge thank you to the wonderful school community from St James' Anglican School Alkimos for your generous donation of ready-made toiletry packs for The Spiers Centre. 💙
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Syme and student representatives to the centre, where we were able to show them around and explain how much these packs mean to the individuals and families we support. It was a great opportunity to share how even a simple toiletry pack can make a real difference for people experiencing financial hardship.
The need in our community is growing, and thanks to your generosity, more than half of the packs delivered on Tuesday have already been distributed to families doing it tough. Your kindness is helping people feel cared for and supported during a difficult time.
Thank you to everyone who donated and to the students and staff for your compassion and community spirit. Together, we are making a positive difference, one family at a time. 💙
